A collection of character posters for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness put the spotlight on Benedict Cumberbatch as The Master of the Mystic Arts and the rest of Team Strange. Released via the official Twitter account for Doctor Strange, the posters drape the likes of Stephen Strange, Wanda Maximoff, Wong, and new recruit America Chavez in an ominous red fog. Clearly, entering the madness of the multiverse is not going to be a laugh-a-minute adventure.

As well as uniting both Doctor Strange and The Scarlet Witch (at least at first), Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will see the Marvel wizard turn to America Chavez for assistance in stopping the multiverse from collapsing. Played by The Baby-Sitters Club star Xochitl Gomez, America Chavez has the ability to punch open doorways between dimensions. Something which is sure to come in very handy.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness also sees the return of both Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo and Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer. How exactly the two characters will factor into the plot remains to be seen, but it does appear in the recent trailers that Mordo could be a member of the superhero think-tank The Illuminati.

Take a look at the new character posters below.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is Rumored to Include Several Crowd-Pleasing Cameos

Doctor Strange’s exploit across the multiverse will also see the Marvel hero come face-to-face with a variety of different variants, much like audiences saw in the recent outing Spider-Man: No Way Home. Though, instead of bringing previous iterations of the character into the MCU in the way that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire joined Tom Holland, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will instead see Benedict Cumberbatch play a range of different versions of The Master of the Mystic Arts.

So far, we have seen that Cumberbatch will play the likes of Defender Strange, Strange Supreme, and a Zombie Doctor Strange, alongside Strange Prime. And there could easily be more to come in the finished film.

An assortment of variants and alternate realities are far from the only surprise in store for audiences, with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness also rumored to include a whole host of crowd-pleasing cameos. Should fan speculation turn out to be accurate, The Illuminati could introduce the likes of The Fantastic Four’s Mr. Fantastic, Namor the Sub-Mariner, and a variant of Iron Man, as well as bringing Patrick Stewart back as X-Men leader Professor Xavier.

Rumors have even claimed that the post-credits scene will see Ryan Reynolds reprise the role of Deadpool, with the sequence allegedly finding the Merc With a Mouth finally entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Directed by Sam Raimi, written by Michael Waldron, and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 6, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
