Doctor Stephen Strange and his newest ally America Chavez take a trip through multiple universes in the latest exciting clip from the imminent Marvel sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Released courtesy of IGN, the footage may be brief, but it is packed full of the kind of surreal imagery that will no doubt make Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness the most unique MCU outing yet.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness picks up following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and finds The Master of the Mystic Arts turning to several of his superhero pals to assist him in bringing order back to the madness of the multiverse as it continues to collapse around him. To prevent the MCU from crumbling into complete disarray, Doctor Strange will unite with some very powerful reinforcements, including Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff AKA The Scarlet Witch and Benedict Wong as Wong, who currently carries the mantle of The Sorcerer Supreme.
The clip teases the scale of the adventure at hand, as The Master of the Mystic Arts and America Chavez hold on tightly to one another as they are hurled through various universes. Beginning with the blocky-looking Doctor Strange that has already been shown in previous trailers, the pair are then whisked away to a vibrant universe where is everything appears to be made of paint, a black-and-white universe that looks like a movie from the 1930s, and a universe that looks akin to Hell, among others.
Clearly, America Chavez will be put to the test in her MCU debut.
America Chavez is Important to the Plot & the Representation of Both the LGBTQ+ and Latinx Community
Marvel Studios
Beloved Marvel character America Chavez will enter the MCU in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and will be portrayed by The Baby-Sitters Club star Xochitl Gomez. A teenager with the ability to punch holes through the multiverse and thus enter different universes, her particular set of skills will come in very handy as Strange attempts to put the madness of the multiverse back in the bottle.
Not only will America Chavez be crucial to the plot of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, she is also an important step forward for representation. Victoria Alonso, President, Physical and Post Production, Visual Effects, and Animation Production at Marvel Studios, recently explained the character’s importance saying, “This character was important to me for many personal reasons, but also because it was important that we make an effort to have every kid in this world represented in our universe, and she represents both the LGBTQ+ and Latinx community.”
Directed by Sam Raimi and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 6, as part of Phase Four of the MCU. The latest Marvel installment has so far been met with largely positive reviews, and currently sits at an impressive 81% on Rotten Tomatoes.
