A new image from the upcoming Marvel sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, sees familiar faces Dr. Stephen Strange and Wong teaming up with superhero newcomer America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gomez. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will further expand on the multiversal shenanigans, which began with the likes of Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home, forcing Strange to make new allies as he faces down a mysterious adversary.
Thanks to the release of the latest trailer, which made waves during last weekend’s Super Bowl, we now have a much better idea of what to expect when Doctor Strange further unleashes the multiverse on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It seems that Doctor Strange will go too far this time, with the newest footage full to the brim of degrading universes and all manner of variants and potential villains.
In his quest to put things right (a task that is quickly becoming a habit for Doctor Strange), The Master of the Mystic Arts will turn to the new character America Chavez AKA Miss America, a teenager with the ability to travel between dimensions. Something which will come in extremely handy when tackling the madness of the multiverse.
This latest image, which comes exclusively from Empire, gives us a good look at The Baby-Sitters Club star Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez. Wearing her recognizable denim jacket, complete with the star symbol on the back (Chavez can open star-shaped portals to other dimensions), the image is no doubt a glimpse at one of many sequences featuring Strange, Wong, and Chavez, with the trio wondering what on earth they should do next as the multiverse crumbles around them.
Doctor Strange 2 Will Feature Several Exciting Cameos
20th Century Fox
While Spider-Man: No Way Home demonstrated the kinds of exciting, crowd-pleasing cameos the MCU is now capable of thanks to the multiverse, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is looking to double down. And then some. The recent trailer seemingly teased an appearance from the secret superhero team, The Illuminati, hinting at cameos from The Fantastic Four’s Mister Fantastic, Namor, and even Patrick Stewart’s return as X-Men leader Professor Xavier.
A newly released poster for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has teased further cameos, including the likes of What If…? character Captain Carter, the Marvel Zombies, and, in a moment that would surely have audiences cheering, Deadpool. The sheer level of cameos that could be on display has since been confirmed by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld who said, ““But yeah, Doctor Strange… to answer that other question and, you know, whatever they’re testing. I kind of feel like each… result of each test that’s being reported in the press is ‘We need to put more cool shit in that movie.’”
Directed by Sam Raimi from a script written by Michael Waldron, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange, alongside Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff AKA The Scarlet Witch, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo, Benedict Wong as Wong, Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez, Michael Stuhlbarg as Nicodemus West, and Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 6, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
