Despite the highly anticipated Marvel sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness being less than two months away from release, Benedict Cumberbatch has revealed that he is still filming reshoots. While attending the recent BAFTAs, Cumberbatch let slip (via Twitter user @SmilingBenedict) that he himself is still involved in filming additional scenes for the Doctor Strange follow-up. What extra madness could director Sam Raimi possibly be adding at this late stage?
“I’m having a very nice time doing reshoots for Doctor Strange,” Cumberbatch said while appearing at the BAFTA event. It has already been revealed that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will introduce all manner of chaos and characters as The Master of the Mystic Arts further explores the Marvel multiverse. Could the sequel be adding further surprise cameos following the response to the recent trailer?
The fact that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is still undergoing reshoots certainly tracks with the planned ambition of the project, with Benedict Cumberbatch recently stating that the movie will match the success of the record-breaking Spider-Man: No Way Home. “It’s a big, big movie. It’s going to be an absolute riot,” the actor said. “And if it brings off the level of ambition it’s got, we’re going to have a success on the level of Spidey. There you go, I’ll put my flag in the sand.”
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is Rumored to Include The Illuminati, Professor X, Captain Carter & Deadpool
Marvel Studios
Directed by Sam Raimi, written by Michael Waldron, and starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange, alongside Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is rumored to include a variety of new and old characters as Strange delves deeper into the multiverse.
These rumors include the likes of What If…? variant Captain Carter, and the return of Patrick Stewart as X-Men leader Professor Xavier. Further rumors and speculation based on the recent trailer reason that Professor X will be sat alongside the other members of The Illuminati, a think tank of some of the Marvel Universe’s most brilliant minds that counts Namor and Mr. Fantastic among its rank.
An apparent leak has also seemingly revealed the introduction of another major Marvel character to the MCU. Be warned, potential MAJOR SPOILERS coming should the leak turn out to be accurate. The leak claims that, in a post-credits scene, “Deadpool, along with Cable, Domino, and Vanessa, are exploring the Illuminati facility due to the Illuminati’s multiversal gates being left open after the Wanda fight.” while unconfirmed, the latest developments in Marvel’s Deadpool 3 will no doubt have the studio looking to bring the ever-popular antihero into the fray as soon as possible.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will pick up following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home and the first season of Loki, and finds Dr. Stephen Strange turning to both old and new mystical allies. Together, they travel into the multiverse to face a mysterious new adversary. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 6, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
