Rumors around who may or may not be appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have not died down with the arrival of the new trailer during the Super Bowl. Instead, the number of people with ideas about who is going to show up has reached new levels thanks to suggested appearances of Professor X, Superior Iron Man and Mr Fantastic, along with a new poster that has been excessively dissected by fans looking for every hint available. Now a new suggestion by The Illuminerdi’s Joseph Deckelmeier indicates that we could be about to see the introduction of a new version of Wolverine in the movie.

For many people, the only Wolverine is Hugh Jackman, but having played the character for what seemed to be the last time in Logan, it is almost certain that everyone’s Wolverine will not be back for the Doctor Strange sequel, despite the multiverse allowing it. In contrast, it does look like we will be seeing Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Charles Xavier aka Professor X, although the iconic actor has chosen to go down the Andrew Garfield route of denying his involvement. In recent interviews, he even went so far as to say he has spent many years listening to people doing impersonations of him and hinted that this may one such fake voice-over, but for now no-one is really buying that.

The tweet by Deckelmeier said, “We will see Wolverine in [Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness] but it definitely won’t be Hugh Jackman.” This has obviously now sparked a host of speculative theories over who will portray the role, the leader being Daniel Radcliffe, and whether we will get to see who will actually be taking over the role permanently as the X-Men are introduced fully into the MCU in the future. Of course, at the moment any Wolverine appearance, like so much else is unconfirmed and is certain to remain so until the movie is released in May.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness is Setting Up A Much Bigger Multiverse Than Spider-Man: No Way Home

     Marvel Studios

Marvel Studios appeared to pull out all the stops when it came to Spider-Man: No Way Home, with the crossover of three different Spider-Man universes and the current Sony Universe that Venom is a part of. With Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the stakes are higher, and so is the cameo count as Stephen Strange finds himself being flung through time and space, into worlds that we can only imagine until we see them appear in screen. This opens up the possible inclusion of any Marvel character, from any timeline, and that is something that is going to see the May release pushing audience numbers higher in the same way Spider-Man: No Way Home did at the end of last year.

While there are some who are very eager to see the MCU stop interconnecting their stories in a way that means fans cannot miss a single film, or connected TV series, without feeling they have missed something, the big question is why would they? Marvel Studios is putting out hit after hit, and fans have been more than willing to invest in something they know is not just a one shot movie. It is the same kind of thing that has seen serial dramas last for decades on TV, and the payoff for those who accept this deeper form of cinema is undeniable. With that in mind, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is most likely not only going to bring a lot of unexpected cameos to the party, but will also set up some of the MCU’s future characters.
