Since Spider-Man: No Way Home unveiled the first trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans have been asking exactly how the multiverse would manifest itself in the next MCU release. Considering the multiverse came to Peter Parker in the latest Spider-Man movie, a new Doctor Strange sequel synopsis has revealed that in the former Sorcerer Supreme’s coming adventure Strange will be heading out into the multiverse and visiting multiple realities. This is likely to lead to the many cameos that have been previously hinted at. For Marvel fans, this is building up to be a big movie that is likely to set up a significant part of the MCU’s future.

The new synopsis for the movie reads: “In Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.”

We already know that Multiverse of Madness will see the return of Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular wizard, along with Benedict Wong as the current Sorcerer Supreme Wong, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, as well as the introduction of Xochitl Gomez as the multiverse traversing America Chavez, who will be facing off against Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Baron Mordo, an evil variant of Strange himself and any number of other creatures and villains from across numerous realities. However, we still know very little about the plot that will tie all of these together, and even the new synopsis hasn’t changed that.

Benedict Cumberbatch made a significant contribution to Spider-Man: No Way Home, but not necessarily in a good way for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In his second solo movie, Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will now take center stage and face the result of his multiverse meddling. Having already told Peter Parker that the worlds beyond the sacred Marvel timeline is something that little is known about, Strange will now be heading out into the dangerous unknown realities that lie beyond our own, and that will see Marvel bringing out more cameos and new character introductions than in any other project to date.

Recently the film underwent a number of reshoots which have supposedly added “more cameos and introductions” according to comments and rumors from the set. This news let to a wave of speculation about who could be featured in the movie from fans, with suggestions such as Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine having one more Marvel appearance, Tom Cruise becoming a variant of Iron Man and many more being circulated on the internet for all to consider. While the trailer, and those to come, holds back on this kind of detail, who exactly will prove to be Strange’s main adversary in the movie is something we will have to wait until May to find out.
