Every Marvel fan remembers the four dozen potential release dates that were suggested for the first and last Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer that turned out to be wrong, and now we are well beyond caring about that anymore. The rumors are starting as to when the first glimpse at Marvel’s next movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will arrive. Yes, that is where we are right now, so it is just as well recent reports have said that as well as the trailer for Disney+ series Moon Knight heading our way before the finale of Hawkeye, we should also see the Doctor Strange trailer before the end of the year.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
While this would normally seem like a bit of a stretch considering, thanks to Disney’s recent reshuffle of their upcoming Marvel Studios slate, we will not see Doctor Strange’s upcoming movie until May, the rumor has come via Big Screen Leaks on Twitter, who has a reasonable track record for this kind of thing. In response to a post in which someone suggested it was unlikely we would be getting a Doctor Strange trailer until next year, BSL replied saying “You’re getting the MOM trailer before the end of the year. Don’t worry.”
Although it seems a pretty sure-sounding stance, remembering how late Marvel have been leaving their “coming soon” trailers, and adding in the fact that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has strong links to Spider-Man: No Way Home, which only comes out this week, will Marvel really release the trailer with No Way Home having been in cinemas for only a couple of weeks? We obviously don’t have too long to wait to find out how accurate this suggestion is or if we are about to start a few months of guessing games again.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is another Marvel movie with many connections to previous entries in the series and with character crossovers from within the MCU, making it, as star Benedict Cumberbatch himself says, “very busy.” If the most recent reports are to be believed, he is certainly not wrong. It is well documented that Elizabeth Olsen will be reprising her role as Scarlet Witch in the movie, although what part she will play is unclear after the ending of Wandavision, and we also have the introduction of America Chavez, played by MCU newcomer Xochitl Gomez. Also along for the ride are confirmed returnees Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams and Chiwetel Ejiofor, who will finally be making a return to pay off his Doctor Strange post credit scene – who says Marvel like to play the long game?
If that wasn’t enough, new rumors have also suggested appearances by Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, Hawkeye’s Clint Barton and Kate Bishop and whispers that the Multiverse could throw up some variants of past Marvel characters, and we don’t even know yet who the main antagonist of the movie is going to be, with a tie-in jigsaw puzzle set revealing an image of the entity Shuma-Gorath, while an official piece of artwork leaked from a LEGO set has suggested it will actually be Gargantos that will be causing problems for the good doctor and his allies. Very busy movie indeed, it seems.
Whether a trailer, before New Year dawns or afterwards, will actually help clear any of this up or just cause more questions is something we will wait to find out with baited breath – obviously after we have dealt with Spider-Man: No Way Home which releases later this coming week. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be released in theaters on May 6th, 2022.
