Jodie Whittaker’s time as the Doctor in Doctor Who is almost at an end, and the new teaser for her final outing in the role of the Time Lord has arrived. Promising an explosive conclusion to Whittaker’s tenure of the TARDIS, many fans are hoping that Chris Chibnall can deliver an ending that will forgive at least some of the lackluster storytelling that has been told during the last few years.
Jodie Whittaker took over the coveted role as the Time Lord from Gallifrey following the departure of Peter Capaldi, but many long-time fans of the show have not been as enamored by Whittaker’s Doctor as many of her previous counterparts. Many issues seem to have come from the writing on the series, which many have said just hasn’t been up to scratch and concentrated too much on drawn out conversations about real-world issues than delivering stunning sci-fi sequences.

The trailer for the new episode, entitled “The Power of The Doctor,” promises a lot of those action sequences that have been missing from many of Whittaker’s episodes, as well as the return of the Daleks, The Master and the Cybermen. All of this seems to be setting up a barnstorming ending to Whittaker’s run, which will also usher in Ncuti Gatwa’s new Doctor in its final moments.
Jodie Whittaker Promises Here Final Episode Is “One For The Whovians.”
Ahead of the episode, Jodie Whittaker spoke to Empire Magazine about her regeneration, and said that the 90-minute episode will be one that should be appreciated by long-term fans of the show. She said:
Chris Chibnall is delivering a story that puts three of the Doctor’s most formidable adversaries in the same place for the first time in the modern era of Doctor Who. Talking about his final episode, Chibnall said:
“It’s one for the Whovians. It’s a huge treat if you’re a proper fan. It’s got all the iconic things that you associate with Doctor Who. It’s massive. I love the dialogue Chris wrote for my regeneration. It captures my Doctor beautifully. It’s simple, epic and beautiful. When I could see the crew was happy with that last shot, that’s when my bottom lip started going. I was like, ‘Well, they can’t say they need another take now because I’ve f*cking lost it!’”
Chibnall’s successor as Doctor Who showrunner will be Russell T. Davies, returning to the show to take charge ahead of the show’s 60th anniversary as well as the new series of the show. He is not coming alone either, as the 60th anniversary episode will also see the return of arguably the most popular Doctor of the modern Who canon, David Tennant. What exactly is planned for that episode is the future, for now, all focus is on Jodie Whittaker’s regeneration episode, which airs on October 23, 2022.
“Jodie’s final feature-length story contains a plethora of treats and surprises for audiences and fans, not least the return of two of the most beloved companions in the show’s history. They’ll be helping the Doctor fight on three fronts, against her deadliest enemies: the Master, Daleks and Cybermen, in one huge story! For the BBC’s Centenary, we’ll be celebrating the past, present and future of Doctor Who, in a fittingly thrilling, epic and emotional send-off for the Thirteenth Doctor.”
