The high viewership makes Don’t Look Up a big hit for Netflix, even if the reviews are a bit mixed. Written and directed by Adam McKay, the film follows two low-level astronomers embarking on a giant media tour to warn mankind of an approaching comet that will destroy planet Earth. The comedy serves as a satirization of climate change and the perceived indifference to the crisis by the media and the U.S. government.

Certainly, what has brought in many of these viewers to check out Don’t Look Up is its impressive cast. The ensemble features Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead roles with the cast also including names like Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi, Himesh Patel, Melanie Lynskey, and Cate Blanchett. Meryl Streep also shines as the president of the United States.

“I just lost it,” Streep told Entertainment Weekly, revealing she had trouble getting back into the swing of things after the 2020 pandemic. “I forgot how to act, I forgot what I was about. It sort of dismantles your humanity, to be isolated like that. But thank god for Jonah, because he kept us laughing.”

“I had so much fun,” added Jonah Hill. “Once we were in that Oval Office it was so cool because it was a bunch of people I either know really well and/or deeply respect. It was like, oh my god, we can joke around together… Meryl was so rad, not because of your stature in your art, but because of how fun and funny you were in the pocket of this character.”

Don’t Look Up is streaming on Netflix with more and more subscribers checking out the new film every day. Whether it manages to reach the heights of Red Notice remains to be seen, but Netflix must undoubtedly be satisfied with Don’t Look Up’s success.
