At CinemaCon 2022, held at Caesars Palace, it was confirmed that the idea for the film is inspired by Inception, Matrix, and The Truman Show. What can be verified in the film’s plot is a mixture of thriller and terror.

In Don’t Worry Darling, Alice (Florence Pugh) and Jack (Harry Styles) are lucky enough to live in Victory, a company’s experimental town that houses the men who work on a secret project called Victory and their families. Life is perfect, with the needs of each resident met by the company.

All they ask in return is an unconditional commitment to Victory’s cause. But when cracks begin to appear in her idyllic life, exposing glimpses of something far more sinister lurking beneath the alluring facade, Alice can’t help but question what they’re doing in Victory and why.

The Controversies of Don’t Worry Darling

     Warner Bros. Pictures

The film has caused a stir from the beginning due to the number of controversies related to the cast and the director. The first situation that marked Don’t Worry Darling occurred in the trailer’s presentation.

Olivia Wilde was about to present Don’t Worry Darling in front of a crowd and was surprised with a notification from the lawyers of her ex-partner, Jason Sudekis. After that tense moment, the situation was far from calm. A bit later, the story of Shia Labeouf’s dismissal surfaced, and then rumors of a confrontation between the leading actress, Florence Pugh, and the director began to grow.

To continue adding controversy, in the official presentation of the film, the tension between the cast and Wilde could be seen. And another confrontation between Chris Pine and Harry Styles was also talked about. Conflicts that would be even more evident in the press tour of Don’t Worry Darling, which the leading actress almost didn’t attend. And although Pugh ended up attending it, she couldn’t be around for too long due to, as stated in the official explanation, scheduling issues.

To make matters worse, Don’t Worry Darling received mixed reviews from the public and the specialized press. This affected the film’s approval rating on sites like Rotten Tomatoes.

In any case, the film starring Pugh and Styles remains in several cinemas around the world and continues with a good rate of collection. It is estimated that the film has raised more than $85 million at the box office.
