Doom Patrol is the HBO Max series about a band of outcast heroes who solve odd issues that no other heroes will. They are a team of gifted yet scared and traumatized individuals. They never asked to be heroes, but that’s what they became. Their being a team goes beyond saving the world, however: in a way, they can save each other, as they’re also a sort of support group for one another.

While at times grim, Doom Patrol is a fun action-packed series that does its comic book source material justice, and as a comic fan, that’s all anyone can ask for. The series has a lot of heart, but it beats due to its stellar cast. Fans know most of these actors from other works they have done over the years. Here’s a rundown of other roles you’ve seen the cast of Doom Patrol actors play before finding a home in this hit DC series.

Her talents are immeasurable, however, as fans have seen just how gifted she is in this series. Skye Roberts certainly has a promising career ahead of her, and her performance as Kay Challis in this past season alone is a significant addition to her growing resume.

7 Michelle Gomez

Madame Rouge / Laura De Mille is one of the main villains from the Doom Patrol comics and was brought to life seamlessly by Michelle Gomez. Fans will recognize her from another popular series that ended just recently; she played Madam Satan, one of the main villains in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Upon seeing her casting in Doom Patrol, fans who saw her in the Netflix series knew they were in for a thrilling ride. However, these aren’t her only villainous roles, as Doctor Who fans will know her as Missy, a female incarnation of The Master, one of the series’ longest-running villains. It seems that wherever Gomez ends up, she always has something wicked up her sleeve.

6 Diane Guerrero

     Netflix

The actress portraying the dominant personality of Kay Challis has made herself more known outside her role in Doom Patrol, as her wonderful singing chops wowed Disney fans in Encanto, where she played Isabela Madrigal. Before that, she could be seen playing the fan-favorite character of Maritza Ramos in all seven seasons of the hit Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. She also played Lina in Jane the Virgin, another popular series. Also, her face can be seen grazing the cover of her memoir In the Country We Love: My Family Divided, her account of her parents being detained and deported when she was fourteen.

5 Joivan Wade

The live-action television incarnation of Cyborg may not be as recognized in other projects, but he’s also had some notable parts in both film and television. Outside of Doom Patrol, Joivan Wade was in The First Purge as Isaiah, one of the film’s main protagonists. While his role wasn’t that notable, earning a top spot in one of the most popular horror franchises of the past decade is a good flex. Before this, the British actor could be seen in the BBC series EastEnders as an older version of the character Jordan Johnson, a troubled youth. These are his only starring roles. The actor has made guest appearances and has done short films, but he is still growing his resume. Playing a famous DC hero in a hit series isn’t a bad way to do it.

4 April Bowlby

Fans may recognize the actress who plays Rita Farr / Elasti-Girl from her guest appearances in various shows such as Psych and The Big Bang Theory, but April Browlby has had other prominent roles outside the DC series. One of her most prominent and memorable characters comes from the long-running comedy series Two and a Half Men as Kandi, one of Charlie Harper’s many dates before marrying his brother Alan. Before that, she was featured in a main role in the Lifetime original series Drop Dead Diva, where she was featured as Stacy Barret. Her character was an aspiring model and actress and best friend of Deb, the show’s main character who died before inhabiting the body of a lawyer.

3 Timothy Dalton

     United Artists

If you thought Timothy Dalton looked familiar even before seeing him as Niles Caulder in Doom Patrol, you might have seen some of his many notable projects from the past three decades. Many people will know the distinguished Brit as the 4th James Bond, having appeared in three films as the suave spy. More recently, he played Sir Malcolm Murray in the popular gothic horror series Penny Dreadful on Showtime. In 2007, he was a sinister supermarket manager in the Edgar Wright comedy classic Hot Fuzz and an antagonistic Allen Pinkerton on the hunt to bring down the infamous James-Younger Gang in American Outlaws. Dalton is a world-class talent and an incredibly well-rounded one to boot. He can play a nefarious villain on the one hand and a sympathetic hero on the other, and his range and underrated talents are on full display in the first three seasons of this popular DC series.

2 Matt Bomer

Before Matt Bomer was the gauze-covered Invisible Man, his most notable role was in the popular USA series White Collar where he played a former criminal aiding the police in finding and capturing other criminals as a consultant. For those who haven’t seen the series, he’s had roles in two seasons of American Horror Story in Freak Show, as a guest star, before returning for the Hotel season in a starring role alongside Lady Gaga. He would then later join the cast of the critically acclaimed The Sinner as a man whose involvement in a car crash leads to a dark turn of events. Outside of television, you can catch him in the Magic Mike films, tearing up the dance floor, and playing a professional assassin in the buddy comedy romp The Nice Guys.

1 Brendan Fraser

Brendan Fraser was a favorite long before he was cast in this series. Fans born in the 90s may remember him as the heartthrob from The Mummy trilogy that saw him and Rachel Weisz team up against Egyptian evil. He’s also recognizable in other works from the late 90s and 2000s as well. He was featured in a starring role as a district attorney in the polarizing film Crash and as the estranged father to Vanessa Hudgens in Gimme Shelter. In addition, he was a man out of time in the Pauly Shore comedy cult classic Encino Man and has an upcoming role in Flowers of the Killer Moon, a new film from Martin Scorsese. Since his casting as Cliff / RobotMan, Fraser has seen a big resurgence in popularity and fan support. He may not have been in the limelight for a while, but his fans never forgot about him.
