It has been quite a wait for Doom Patrol fans to get their first look at season 4 of the DC series, but HBO has finally released the trailer for part one of the new season. With the first episodes set to drop on HBO Max on December 8, fans have been waiting patiently for a look at what is coming for the super-powered group, which includes Brendan Fraser’s Robot Man, Jovian Wade’s Cyborg and Matt Boomer’s Negative Man.
The trailer sees the Doom Patrol being warned of a new threat in the form of Immortus. This leads to Madame Rogue (Michelle Gomez) talking about the Immortus Project, which she explains is the pursuit of immortality. It is then suggested that the project is linked to the youthful Elasti-Woman. Fans are then given a quick-cut look at the time-traveling adventure set in motion for the Doom Patrol, which will prove another popular installment of the show for its many fans. The synopsis for the season reads:
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Doom Patrol is a rare thing, being a DC series that has managed to avoid being canceled in the last few months. Having originally debuted on the DC Universe streaming platform, the series originated from the character’s appearance in the HBO Max series Titans. Since then, the show has proven to be one of the most consistently praised DC projects on Rotten Tomatoes. With season 3 having picked up a perfect 100% approval rate, the new season has some big expectations to live up to.
“In the upcoming fourth season, the team unexpectedly travels to the future to find an unwelcome surprise. Faced with their imminent demise, the Doom Patrol must decide once and for all which is more important: their own happiness or the fate of the world?”
Will Doom Patrol Be Cancelled?
Warner Bros.
The WBD shake-up caused many fans to worry about the possibility of Doom Patrol joining the many DC series canceled across HBO Max and The CW. Early reports commented that the show, and Titans, were “said to be on the chopping block.”
While season 4 is certainly happening, the series’ future could be up for debate. You would have to think that if Doom Patrol continues to pull in positive reviews and maintain a decent viewership, there will be another season green-lit. However, it is hard to take anything for granted when it is only a few months since Batgirl was unceremoniously scrapped, and many other DC shows and movies bit the dust.
One thing that works in Doom Patrol’s favor is that it doesn’t sit within the larger DCU; therefore, also sits independent of any plans that James Gunn and Peter Safran have cooking in that department. As a series that was probably one of the underdogs of the entire DC output at Warner Bros. Discovery, it is quite an achievement for the show to have made it to its fourth season.
