What to Expect From Dune: The Sisterhood
HBO
Dune: The Sisterhood is an upcoming prequel series to director Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movie series. This new entry into the Dune universe will transport the audience into the story thousands of years before the journey of Paul Atreides, and it “follows the Harkonnen Sisters (Emily Watson, Shirley Henderson) as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit,” according to the official synopsis. It will be exciting to see how this period in Dune’s past plays out and influences its future. Audiences will travel through Frank Herbert’s fascinating sci-fi world filled with complex characters, vibrant settings, and strange events in the series.
Travis Fimmel will also be joining the upcoming Dune prequel series. Fimmel is best known for his role as Ragnar Lothbrok in Vikings, although he has also appeared in films such as Warcraft and Lean on Pete. This time, he has been pegged to star as Desmond Hart, one of the major characters in Dune’s prequel, described as “a charismatic soldier with an enigmatic past who seeks to gain the Emperor’s trust at the expense of the Sisterhood.” It will be interesting to see what Fimmel brings to this mysterious role. With every new project he takes on, fans cannot help but anticipate his performance.
The Vikings star joins Academy Award nominee Emily Watson and Harry Potter star Shirley Henderson as Valya and Tula Harkonnen, respectively. Indira Varma, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Chloe Lea, Faoileann Cunningham, Aoife Hinds, and Shalom Brune-Franklin round out the cast of Dune: The Sisterhood. Diane Ademu-John is the series creator and also serves as an executive producer. Alison Schapker is the lone showrunner now that Ademu-John has stepped down.
