After becoming one of the greatest professional wrestlers in the WWE, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson shifted his focus towards his acting career. The late-2000s was when his career really started to pick up momentum, with Johnson starring in films such as The Game Plan, Get Smart, and Race to Witch Mountain. Since then, he has starred in countless films, which have grossed more than $12 billion worldwide. This cemented his status as one of the world’s biggest movie stars.

Known for his sense of humor, charm, and positive public persona, it’s not hard to see why so many fans have gravitated towards Johnson. From Disney’s Jungle Cruiseto Netflix’s Red Notice, he has consistently brought an energy that no one else has been able to bring. While not everyone has been a fan of Johnson’s films, there’s no doubt he worked hard to get where he is today. Without further ado, here are the eight highest-grossing movies of Dwayne Johnson’s career.

8 Fast Five (2011) — $626.1M

     Universal Pictures

Fast Five was the film that introduced Johnson’s Luke Hobbs to the Fast & Furious franchise. An agent working for the Diplomatic Security Service, Hobbs was tasked with hunting down Dom, Brian, and Mia when they were framed for murdering his men. Fast Five was driven by impressive action set-pieces such as the Rio heist, moving the franchise away from its street-racing roots. The film was a major commercial success, grossing over $625 million worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing Fast film at the time of its release.

7 Moana (2016) — $645M

     Walt Disney Pictures

In the same year that Disney released Zootopia, they also released another animated classic: Moana. Johnson voiced Maui, a shape-shifter and the self-proclaimed “greatest demigod in all the pacific islands.” He joined Moana on her quest to save the world, singing songs like “You’re Welcome” along the way. According to Deadline, Moana was one of the most streamed films of 2021. Of course, even during its 2016 theatrical run, Moana managed to gross an impressive $645 million.

6 Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) — $760M

Joining forces with Jason Statham, Johnson co-led the first live-action Fast & Furious spin-off, Hobbs & Shaw. An action-packed buddy movie, Hobbs & Shaw knew exactly what it was and didn’t take itself too seriously. Those who enjoyed the more over-the-top elements of the Fast & Furious franchise were left pleasantly surprised. Hobbs & Shaw grossed $760 million worldwide, indicating audience interest in films outside The Fast Saga.

5 Fast & Furious 6 (2013) — $788.7M

Johnson reprised his role as DSS agent Luke Hobbs in 2013’s Fast & Furious 6. In the film, Hobbs approached Dom and his crew for help in taking down mercenary leader Owen Shaw. Dom accepted the mission upon realizing that his wife, Letty Ortiz, was back from the dead and working with Shaw. Fast & Furious 6 grossed $788.7 million in 2013, outperforming that year’s superhero films, Man of Steel and Thor: The Dark World.

4 Jumanji: The Next Level (2019) — $801.7M

     Columbia Pictures

With how successful 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was, there was no way that Sony wasn’t going to make a sequel. Titled Jumanji: The Next Level, it arrived only two years later and brought back the entire main cast. Johnson reprised his role as Dr. Xander “Smolder” Bravestone, this time controlled by Eddie (Danny DeVito) instead of Spencer (Alex Wolff). Jumanji: The Next Level grossed less than the preceding film, but was still a major success, earning over $800 million.

3 Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) — $962.5M

     Sony Pictures

The original Jumanji that starred Robin Williams was a box office success, but it took more than two decades for another Jumanji film to get made. 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle finally gave Jumanji a modern update, to positive reception from both audiences and critics. The film starred Johnson, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and even Nick Jonas. Thanks to their chemistry, as well as a fun script and solid direction, Jumani: Welcome to the Jungle was able to really shine. By the end of the film’s theatrical run, it had grossed $962.5 million.

2 The Fate of the Furious (2017) — $1.238B

The eighth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise, The Fate of the Furious, grossed $541.9 million during its opening weekend. That marked the best opening for a film ever until Marvel Studios released Avengers: Infinity War in 2018. When all was said and done, The Fate of the Furious grossed $1.238 billion, making it the third highest-grossing film of 2017 (behind Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Beauty and the Beast). The Fate of the Furious was Johnson’s last Fast film before Hobbs & Shaw and his last appearance in The Fast Saga.

1 Furious 7 (2015) — $1.516B

Furious 7 grossed over $1.5 billion at the box office, making it the highest-grossing film in Johnson’s career. The film featured a face-off between Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, with Hobbs only losing because of Shaw detonating an explosive device. Hobbs remained in the hospital before making a heroic return towards the end of the film. Furious 7 has remained the highest-grossing installment in the Fast & Furious franchise and also remained in the top ten highest-grossing films of all time.
