Black Adam reshoots began last week as Dwayne Johnson and the team put the finishing touches on the new epic DC movie set to hit theaters in October. It’s always easy to tell just what The Rock is cooking these days. Just check out his Instagram. Thanks to his current work on Black Adam, the former wrestler and movie juggernaut has been sharing another behind-the-scenes look at this “hierarchy-changing” character.

The Shazam spin-off movie originally completed filming last Fall, and it was all set to premiere early this year. After being pushed back to July, the film was then given another delay until October. It was revealed soon after that, due to the Covid pandemic and the amount of visual effects to be completed in post-production, the film just needed more time to get everything right. Of course, with reshoots now also taking place, it makes the newest delay more understandable.

While the cast and crew put the finish touches to some shots from the movie, Johnson was happy to keep everyone updated via his Instagram account as to what was going on with the movie, and shared a moody shot of himself in full costume as a bonus. Johnson wrote:

“Intense week of production continues as we put the finishing touches on Black Adam. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of playing some great (fun) characters over the years, but none speak to my DNA more than this antihero known as the man in black, Teth Adam. Rage against the dying of the light. The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change.”

While some actors would hate to be asked to return to a role for reshoots months after the original filming came to an end, Dwayne Johnson has relished the chance to work with his team again to “put some final details and last touches to our movie before we lock and deliver.” Having praised the crew to the hilt, Johnson previously shared an image of himself with director Jaume Collet-Serra and lead VFX editor Krisztian Majdik as they prepared to film some shots needed to really make the movie pop.

Reshoots certainly are no longer a rarity or a bad thing when it comes to the biggest blockbusters. While at one time, they usually signaled that something was wrong with the movie, or last minute and usually harmful changes were being made to the story, now reshoots are usually nothing more than making sure that the director has every angle and shot they intended to have. In some cases recently, reshoots have mainly been used to redo shots that were originally filmed at the height of the Covid pandemic when restrictions made some photography hard to do as initially intended. Now that moviemakers have more freedom again, there have been a lot of movies that have used some time putting actors back in front of the camera to make those stunted scenes a bit more natural.
