Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson may be a tough guy on screen, but his softer side comes out when it comes to his family. After his mom survived a horror car crash on Feb. 1, the action hero urged his fans to hug their parents if they are still around. Johnson has been in his fair share of stunt car crashes, but getting a call to say that his mother’s red Cadillac had been hit in an accident seems to have shaken him more than any of his blockbuster movies.

According to an Instagram post by Johnson, in which he shared an image of the car in question looking torn up, with much of the passenger side of the hood a mangled mess. He commented on the incident, praising the police for their care and attention and speaking directly to his fans about making sure they remember to appreciate their parents while they can. He wrote:

“Thank you God she’s ok. Angels of mercy watched over my mom as she was in a car crash late last night. She’ll survive and continue to get evaluated. This woman has survived lung cancer, tough marriage, head on collision with a drunk driver. She’s a survivor, in ways that make angels and miracles real. Thank you LAPD & LAFD for being so caring & focused. Thanks for staying on phone and talking me thru it all. I got one parent left, so if you still got your mom and dad make sure you hug ‘em hard, cos you never know when you’ll get that 3am call we never want to get.”

Dwayne Johnson Frequently Shares Anecdotes About Parents and Upbringing in Young Rock

     NBC

The biographical sitcom Young Rock is heading into its third season on NBC and tells many stories from Johnson’s younger years, as well as envisioning a future where The Rock is a presidential candidate and acts as the narrator of the show, telling his stories in flashback. The show focuses on three different time periods in his life; 1982, 1987, and 1990.

Series creator Nahnatchka Khan previously spoke about how the series reveals much about the younger life of one of the biggest stars on the planet, including looking at his family life. She said:

When teasing the show’s first season back in 2021, Johnson noted, “I really wish my dad was around to see this one. Maaaaan he would’ve been proud.” Unfortunately, rocky Johnson passed away in 2020 at 75, which is just one of the reasons he is now so protective of his mother and so thankful that she was ok after her accident.

“He’s one of those famous people on the planet. Even if you don’t really know that much about Dwayne Johnson, a lot of people have a cursory passing knowledge of who he is and what he’s done. But there’s so much that people don’t know about how he got to where he is. I think that’s what we’re interested in exploring … the surprising moments and the times where it was really tough for him and his family.”
