Now that Wolverine will unite with Deadpool, bringing the long-awaited team to life in the Deadpool threequel, several speculations about other X-Men ventures and storylines are coming to MCU. Recently, Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in the MCU, has expressed her wish to work with the X-Men characters. Olsen was at Variety’s Power of Women event when someone broke the news of Jackman’s return to her. The actress, in her response, also acknowledged her character’s comic book heritage as Magneto’s daughter.

Olsen last appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In the movie, her character got a surprise transition into an antagonist after the events of WandaVision. Wanda seemingly sacrificed herself at the film’s end as she brought down Mount Wundagore upon herself. However, recently Kevin Feige addressed having Olsen on board again as the studio still has a lot of her central storyline untouched from the comics.

I guess Wolverine is X-Men. It would be cool to work with a lot of those people from the X-Men franchise. I guess Fassbender is my dad in some world?

Scarlet Witch’s return to the franchise is potentially inevitable, but nothing can be said of her appearance’s timeline. But with Wolverine returning and Marvel Studios’ Mutants in development, Olsen’s wish isn’t that far-sighted. Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel has already been teased about having mutant genes. Recently, Tenoch Huerta’s Namor (slated to appear in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) is also confirmed to be a mutant. Marvel Studios is potentially going for a more MCU-inclined way of introducing mutants to the franchise. What would be interesting is the studio’s plan to incorporate Wolverine in Deadpool III and how it would have the film continue from the X-Men Series into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Scarlet Witch Is Probably Teased to be a Mutant Already

A brief but subtle hint in WandaVision may have referenced Wanda’s unknown history as a mutant in the MCU. In Age of Ultron, we were told how the Maximoff twins survived a dud Stark Industries bomb as kids while another killed their parents. They then volunteered for Mind Stone experiments by Strucker, leading to their confrontation with the Avengers.

However, while reciting a flashback sequence in WandaVision, Agatha claims that Wanda stopped the bomb with her mind. Agatha says that Wanda used the Probability Hex to keep the bomb from going off. However, Wanda never got her powers until she was a grown-up. It’s possible that Wanda and Pietro got mutant genes from their apparent birth parents, Max and Magda, the former of which later became Erik Lensherr, aka Magneto. It would explain how the twins survived Strucker’s experiment while other subjects met fatal fates.

Earlier, Marvel Studios had to change the Maximoff twins’ MCU history due to copyright concerns with Fox over using mutant characters. But now that the X-Men rights lie with Marvel again, the studio can revisit the comic book lore of these characters and get us a Magneto-Scarlet Witch unison alongside Wolverine.
