Shudder has released a promo video for The Last Drive-In: Joe Bob’s Haunted Halloween Hangout. In what has become an annual tradition for the horror-focused streaming platform, horror legend Joe Bob Briggs has been hosting Halloween specials as a tie-in to his ongoing series The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs. On Friday, Oct. 21, the latest special will arrive with special guest Cassandra Peterson, also known to horror fans as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. You can watch Briggs and Peterson tease what’s to come by watching the promo video below.
“The Druids called it Samhain, others know it as All Saints’ Day, or Halloween, or Monday, at least this year,” Briggs says in the video. “No matter what you call it, Halloween is serious business, so this year we’re summoning an expert in the dark arts.”
“Oh, I like the sound of that,” Peterson responds.
This is separate from the ongoing series The Last Drive-In, which is set to return for a fifth season following a renewal over the summer. The series was originally intended to be a one-off special on Shudder, but its immense success has resulted in the streaming service keeping Briggs around for much more. In addition to the four seasons of the series that have premiered, there have been specials as well in observance of holidays, wth Christmas, Halloween, and Valentine’s Day getting multiple specials. Joe Bob’s Dinners of Death in 2018 also acknowledged Thanksgiving.

Former MonsterVision host Joe Bob Briggs is just as happy as the fans to keep this party going. There’s no telling when it will end at this point as the fans continue to support the series with every episode, many ensuring to watch it live while live-tweeting as it all goes down. Briggs has consistently offered his thanks to the fans for making his return to hosting monster movies on television possible.
“Thanks to the Shudder team for giving us the chance to hang out another year with the greatest fans in media. I’m constantly amazed by their affection and I’m constantly learning from them," he said in a statement when the show was renewed for season 5.
Shudder General Manager Craig Engler added, “We’re delighted to bring Joe Bob, Darcy and the rest of The Last Drive-in Team back for another season of crazy movies, live tweeting, and the most entertaining commentary on TV. We’ll also have more special guests and themed holiday episodes, because as Joe Bob says, the drive-in never dies.”
The Last Drive-In: Joe Bob’s Haunted Halloween Hangout is set to premiere on Friday, Oct. 21 at 9pm ET/8c. Fans will also be able to stream the special on Shudder afterward and within the Shudder offering on AMC+ starting on Sunday, Oct. 23.
