Warning: This article contains minor spoilers for Emily in Paris Season 3.
Since its debut in 2020,Emily in Paris has quickly shot up the rankings as one of the most popular Netflix original series ever made. The quirky rom-com stars Lily Collins as the titular character as she tries to fit in at a posh marketing firm in, you guessed it, Paris, France. In true rom-com fashion, the irresistible show covers topics of everyday life, including love, a topic that the city is famous for.
For Emily, while marketing and winning over her Parisian officemates may seem to be her biggest priorities, since the first season, she has found herself battling love as well. One of the first people she meets in Paris happens to be a chef named Gabriel, with whom she would share a complicated relationship when it’s revealed that he is already dating someone else! She tries to distract herself with other love interests, but none of them can stand up to the (hidden) love between Gabriel and Emily. In the second season, Emily is given a new beau for fans to fawn over, who, at least in this writer’s opinion, is a better match than Gabriel.
After three successful seasons, and a fourth one having already been greenlit, fans are hopeful that there is more in store for Emily in Paris, especially after the cliffhanger the third season left them with. In an article from Town and Country, fans are speculating that the fourth season of the beloved show will debut in December 2023, following the past season’s releases. Until official word is released, fans can binge-watch the first three seasons on Netflix and check out our ranking of Emily’s love interests.

6 Thomas — The Semiotics Professor
Netflix
Arguably one of Emily’s worst love interests comes from her short, one-episode fling with the stuck-up semiotics professor, Thomas (Julien Floreancig). Thomas starts off as a good guy when he chats up Emily at a restaurant. The two hit it off as they people-watch and try to guess if another couple is, in fact, a couple, mother and son, or even a throuple. Their relationship quickly leads to the bedroom, which is overheard by her downstairs neighbor, and crush, Gabriel. Speaking of Gabriel, he tries to warn Emily that Thomas is a snob, but she doesn’t believe him until a few days later, when Thomas gets upset over having to see a (free) showing of Swan Lake at the opera.

5 Doug — The American Boyfriend
Doug is Emily’s American boyfriend, who refused to even visit her in Paris. Perhaps the only two redeeming qualities about Doug (Roe Hartrampf) are that he didn’t stop Emily from following her dreams and going to Paris, and then when he tried to send her a possible client in the third season. While Doug may not have been a big part of the series, Emily did allude to him a few times over the seasons, saying she thought the two would eventually marry. Luckily, for fans of both Team Alfie and Team Gabriel, Doug let Emily be once he realized they were in two different places — literally!
4 Mathieu Cadault — The Work Fling
Besides the fact that Mathieu, played by Charles Martins, literally left Emily alone on a train to St. Tropez, he was a decent match for our beloved girl. Mathieu, or Mat as she affectionately calls him, is the heir to the Cadault fashion industry, a brand that Emily helps secure to win over her Parisian counterparts. Their relationship starts off as more of a flirtation, but eventually leads to some passion. One of his redeeming qualities of Mat is that he did want the best for Emily, even if he had a backward way of doing so. When he realized there was something between Gabriel and Emily, he left her to follow that connection for herself.
3 Timothée — The Virgin
Oh, Timothée (Victor Meutelet), perhaps one of Emily’s biggest mistakes. During the first season of the series, Emily visits Camille’s family and meets the brother Camille wanted to introduce Emily to. Unfortunately for Emily, Camille forgets to mention that she has two brothers, one of which is a 17-year-old virgin. Emily is swept up by the champagne and comes on to Timothée, only to find out the next morning of her big mistake. Since that first night, Timothée gets one appearance each season, which allows fans to remember their transgression. Each time they reunite, as friends, he is sweet to Emily and even a bit jealous of her relationship with Alfie.
2 Gabriel — The Chef
Let’s take about Gabriel, Emily’s original love. Gabriel, played by Lucas Bravo, is the chef and downstairs neighbor of Emily, who helps her settle into her new life in Paris. The two seem to find themselves together a lot during the first season, which results in a passionate kiss. While the kiss was as romantic as anyone could want, it’s also where his red flags start. Gabriel let Emily kiss him despite having a pretty serious girlfriend named Camille. From this commission of truth on, Gabriel lets Camille come between them. You can tell he loves Emily, but his first instincts are to reach out to Camille first over Emily, as he did when he decided to stay in Paris and open his restaurant. By the third season, Gabriel finally admits to Emily that he loves her, but that he also loves Camille too, enough that he ends up proposing to Camille. Yes, it may have been because she is pregnant, but he still, at that moment, chose Camille.
1 Alfie — The London Boy
Fans have the pleasure of meeting Emily’s best love interest, Alfie (Lucian Laviscount), in the second season when the pair meet in French class. At first, Alfie is a bit standoffish and rude to Emily, but once the two warm up to one another, they quickly blossom into an adorable romance. Alfie pushes Emily to enjoy her life and not just her work, while she teaches him how to enjoy Paris and the things around him. At the end of season two, Alfie tells Emily he wants to try long distance with her, something she is seemingly unsure about. This confusion carries over into the beginning of season three, where it seems the beloved couple may not survive. Alfie ends up staying in Paris, though he does not tell her right away, and thankfully the pair reconnect after a public declaration of love from Emily. Thanks to the twist about Camille at the end of season three, fans are left wondering if Alfie and Emily can ever be together, or if Gabriel will always come between them.
