Luca’s Emma Berman and Abbott Elementary’s Jamaal Avery Jr. have been cast as two of the lead members of the voice cast in the upcoming series Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures, the first full-length animated Star Wars series for preschoolers. The castings were announced on Saturday, September 11, 2022, by Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television, at D23 Expo 2022: The Ultimate Fan Experience in Anaheim, California.

Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures follows a group of Younglings as they embark on wild adventures where they help people in need, discover exotic creatures (and yes, this show is introducing a new alien species that “you don’t want to mess with,” said the EP), clash with villainous pirates, train with their masters and learn valuable life lessons as they study the ways of the Force on their path to becoming Jedi and learning compassion, self-discipline, teamwork, patience, and friendship. Force-sensitive Kai Brightstar is one of the Jedi Younglings, played by Avery, who describes him as “kind,” “adventurous,” and “brave.” He hopes to follow in the footsteps of his hero, Master Yoda, and become a Jedi Knight and bring peace and harmony to the galaxy. Kai is friends with pilot, Nash Durango (played by Berman), who joins him and his friends on their adventures across the galaxy.

     Disney

Set 200 years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, many recent Star Wars projects have been exploring the High Republic Era, considered the Jedi Order’s golden age. During this period, the Jedi were more diverse, open, and accepting, and followed the Jedi Code less dogmatically. Set during the High Republic Era, the animated series Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures will arrive in 2023 on Disney Junior and Disney+.

Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures is executive produced by Lucasfilm for Disney Junior and Disney+ by Michael Olson (Puppy Dog Pals), who is also a showrunner on the series. The series is executive produced by Lucasfilm’s James Waugh (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Jacqui Lopez (Pacific Rim), and Josh Rimes (Star Wars: The Bad Batch). Elliot M. Bour (Elena of Avalor) is co-producer and supervising director; Jeannine Hodson (Puppy Dog Pals) is producer, and Lamont Magee (Black Lightning) is consulting producer.
