With the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards right around the corner, TV lovers have been researching which of their favorites will be nominated for the distinguished awards. Per Billboard, the nomination round of voting runs from June 16 to 27, with the official nominations being announced July 12. Streaming services like HBO Max, Hulu, and Netflix offer the most possible nominations, with front-runners for the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series being The White Lotus, Dopesick, The Dropout, Maid, and The Staircase.

Ahead of the official Emmy nominations announcement, here’s a look at the series we think will most likely receive a nomination for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, and the ones that should be considered.

11 The White Lotus

     Warner Bros. Television Distribution

The White Lotus took place at a tropical resort where both the employees and guests were struggling with their own exploits over their week-long stay. From newlyweds to recovering alcoholics, the lives of these people intertwine when they all stay at the White Lotus resort. What starts as a vacation ends in murder, fights, theft, and a suitcase full of poop. The HBO show first aired in July 2021. Its second season was recently announced, though it will follow a new set of characters.

10 Dopesick

     Hulu

One of the few Hulu shows that topped the charts in 2021 was the limited series Dopesick, which followed America’s struggle with opioids. The series gives its viewers a look at the crisis in various ways, including in the boardroom of a large pharmaceutical company, a mining community, and at the DEA. The limited series was based on the nonfiction novel of the same name written by Beth Macy. Originally airing in October 2021, the eight-episode miniseries that gave a fictional, yet accurate insight into the crisis.

9 The Dropout

The Dropout is also based on a real-life event. In the series, Amanda Seyfried plays Elizabeth Holmes, the woman who dropped out of college and started her own technology company, Theranos. The series followed her attempt to revolutionize the healthcare industry. The eight-episode miniseries aired in March 2022 and quickly became one of the most talked-about shows this year.

8 The Staircase

     HBO Max

The Staircase is a fictionalized look into the death of Kathleen Patterson, a woman who either accidentally fell down the stairs, was murdered by her husband, or was attacked by an owl — all of which caused her death at the bottom of the staircase. In HBO’s version, Colin Firth and Toni Collette played Michael and Kathleen Peterson, respectively. The series followed events leading up to Kathleen’s death, the trial of Michael Peterson, and the French documentary on the events. The show aired from May to June 2022, making it the most recent show to be considered for the Emmys.

7 Maid

     Netflix

Netflix’s contribution to the list of possible Emmy nominations comes from their limited series Maid, which is also based on true events. The 2021 limited series follows Alex Russell as she takes herself and her daughter out of an abusive relationship. The young mother becomes a maid as she tries to build a better life for her daughter. The series portrays the struggle women face in similar situations and is certainly one of the most emotional shows on this list.

6 Under the Banner of Heaven

Under the Banner of Heaven is a crime-based limited series based on true events. The show is adapted from Jon Krakauer’s nonfiction novel of the same name and dives into LDS fundamentals connection to the murder of a young mother and child in 1984 Utah. The show aired on Hulu from April to June 2022 and has been praised for its ability to depict Mormon and LDS religions. Lead actor Andrew Garfield has also been praised for showing depth to a struggling character.

5 Y: 1883

     Paramount+

As a prequel to the hit show, Yellowstone, Y: 1883 has taken the internet by storm. The popular Paramount+ show follows the Dutton family as they journey out west. While you may know the Dutton family from Yellowstone, 1883 takes on an origin story of its own. The show is a prequel, but viewers who have not seen Yellowstone can appreciate the series as a standalone show. The ten-episode limited series boasts a stellar cast, including Sam Elliot and the real-life couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

4 Moon Knight

     Marvel Studios

After WandaVision failed to garner the awards it should have won, Disney and Marvel’s fans are not expecting the 2022 series Moon Knight to earn a nomination, even though it should. Oscar Issac plays Steven Grant, a normal guy who was given the powers of an Egyptian God. Steven suffers from dissociative identity disorder and finds himself sharing his body with a mercenary, Marc Spector. With enemies of both Steven and Marc approaching, the two have to work out how to manage their newfound powers

3 Midnight Mass

From the brilliant mind of Mike Flanagan comes Netflix’s Midnight Mass. This thrilling limited series takes its viewers to an isolated island town whose lives are changed when a new priest comes to town. His appearance brings unexplained events, bad omens, and a renewed religious fervor amongst the community. From its actors to the storyline, Midnight Mass is a one-of-a-kind show that became an instant hit when it first aired in September 2021.

2 Station Eleven

While not everyone may agree with seeing Station Eleven on this list, it’s our opinion that the show is severely underrated. The 2021 HBO limited series starts off slow, but thanks to the strange twists, ends well. The series takes its viewers to a post-apocalyptic world spanning a few timelines. The world is struggling to regroup after a deadly flu and attempts to both rebuild and remember the world they once loved. Jumping between the past and the present, the fantasy-styled show is worth watching throughout the whole series.

1 Pam and Tommy

Most people know who Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson are. Whether that is from their separate lives or from their life together, the pair went through major drama when a workman stole and sold their sex tape. The 2022 Hulu limited series Pam & Tommy follows the couple’s whirlwind relationship from their marriage, after only being together for 96 hours, through the events of their stolen sex tape. Lily James and Sebastian Stan’s chemistry helps bring the biopic to life.
