We now have our first look at the upcoming Netflix sequel, Enola Holmes 2. Several images featuring Millie Bobby Brown as Enola, Henry Cavill as Sherlock, and Louis Partridge as Tewkesbury have been released courtesy of Entertainment Weekly alongside the movie’s official release date. As per the report, Enola Holmes 2 will land on Netflix on November 4, 2022.
Released in 2020, the first Enola Holmes introduced audiences to the lesser-known Holmes sister. An adaptation of the mystery-thriller book series of the same name, written by Nancy Springer, Enola Holmes chronicles the adventures of Sherlock Holmes’ younger sister Enola, who, when her mother disappears, decides to become a super-sleuth in her own right. Running away to London, where she establishes a clandestine private detective career specializing in missing person investigations, Enola must also keep ahead of her brothers, who are determined to capture and force her to conform to their expectations.
Directed by Harry Bradbeer from a screenplay by Jack Thorne, Enola Holmes stars Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown as the title character, with Henry Cavill starring as Sherlock Holmes and Sam Claflin as Mycroft, with Helena Bonham Carter as their mother, Eudoria. The first outing for Enola Holmes was met with huge streaming success and largely positive reviews from critics, with audiences excited to see what she will get up to next.
Enola Holmes 2 Will Be Grittier Than the First Movie
Netflix
Thus, Enola Holmes 2 will find the Holmes sibling working as a detective-for-hire like her infamous brother. Enola Holmes takes on her first official case to find a missing girl, as the sparks of a dangerous conspiracy ignite a mystery that requires the help of friends — and Sherlock himself — to unravel. The sequel, though, will reportedly center on the relationship between Enola and her elder brother Sherlock, as the former attempts to step out of the latter’s shadow. A task that becomes increasingly difficult when their cases overlap.
Enola will come across several new characters while working the case, including David Thewlis as “a shady cop,” and Dune star Sharon Duncan-Brewster as “a mysterious new character with ties to the case Enola is investigating,” as well as a few familiar faces such as Louis Partridge as Viscount Tewkesbury and Helena Bonham Carter as Eudoria Holmes.
“I wanted this story to be a grittier one,” says returning director Harry Bradbeer. “I wanted to introduce her to working-class girls in a working-class world. I wanted it to be a completely new world for Enola, so she was more out of her depth.”
Bradbeer continued, heaping praise on his lead star. “She understands an adult story, but she also understands the instincts of a younger person, so all those things are vital,” Bradbeer adds. “She’s very trusting of us as we put the story together, and she gives input as each draft comes along. That’s the most important thing: She has a tremendous instinct for who Enola is.”
Enola Holmes 2 will available to stream from November 2, 2022, only on Netflix.
