Vihaan Samat, star of the English-language Indian Netflix series Eternally Confused and Eager for Love, does complete justice to this weird and wacky title. The show debuted on the streaming giant on March 18, 2022, and features eight episodes. The show looks into the life of the upper-middle class Bombay city-based millennial (or Gen-Z, we’re not too sure about it) named Ray. We follow the story of the young lad and his socially awkward journey who is desperate to find his soulmate and… to lose his virginity.
This awkward 20-something-year-old is super single and super fearful of mingling, and he is not your regular confident hero like you see in every other romantic comedy. Ray gets extremely shy, which turns downright weird when he’s around women and can sometimes even blurt out the worst possible remarks one could say in social company. If that’s not odd enough, he is massively dependent on his imaginary friend named Wiz, who we believe is the star of the show with all those witty one-liners. Wiz helps Ray navigate his love life. Though imaginary, he is Ray’s biggest confidante despite all the sarcastic taunts and mordant humor.

“It’s a 100% human story that everyone can relate to… There’s friendships, romance, family problems… And Ray keeps messing up,” says Vihaan Samat, the lead, in an interview with Gulf News. The show is definitely worth binging. So, let’s talk about what to expect from this show.

Plot Summary
It’s apparent right away when the show introduces Ray that he is an awkward man who has a hard time trying to make conversation with women. The man is constantly seen talking to his imaginary friend, who is personified in the form of Wiz, a keychain in the shape of an old wizard.
Other than Wiz, Ray has two close friends; his work buddy Varun (Ankur Rathee) and his best friend from school, Riya (Dalai Mulchandani). Ray confides his struggles and love life to these two all the time. His parents, played by Suchitra Pillai and Rahul Bose, constantly nudge him to settle down and get married and thus, set him up with one of their friends’ daughters and his old schoolmate, Pari. But, in classic Ray-fashion, he develops cold feet when he has to meet her at the bar and ends up standing her up.
Riya sets him up with her colleague, Karishma, who recently broke up with her boyfriend, for a dinner date. Ray was really bringing his A-game and impressing Karishma when he made an insensitive joke about her grandfather and completely ruined the night. Thereafter, he heads to a party with Riya and her friends when Naina, one of her friends, shows interest in him, but as usual, he gets awkward and avoids her, which leads her to find someone else with who she eventually makes out with. He decides to download Homerun, a TV series version of Tinder, where he connects with Ruchika. Somehow with fate on his side, he also connects with Pari in the hospital where her father was admitted after a heart attack.
Now with two women to meet, Ray’s luck finally seemed to have turned, but, of course, things can never go in his favor. He messes up things with Pari, who never wants to see him again, and messes up things with Ruchika, too, when she tried to hook up with him in his car, but he didn’t have protection. To make matters worse, Ray gets fired from his job when his office worker files for harassment even though he was trying to help her feel safe. In the final episode, however, we see things take a relatively positive turn for Ray when he finally loses his virginity. But it can’t be a happy ending now, can it? He wakes up to realize that he slept with the woman he hates the most and with no recollection of the night since he had all those shots at the Varun’s engagement party.
There’s already quite a build-up for the second season. However, there’s no confirmation of renewal just yet. In the meantime, you can binge this series on Netflix and start by watching the trailer.
