It is hard to imagine an Evil Dead movie without plenty of blood, gore and flying body parts, and a new behind-the-scenes look at Evil Dead Rise certainly promises plenty of that. Director Lee Cronin shared a new image from the movie as he celebrated the anniversary of the film shoot. Although the movie has been delayed to April 2023 to receive a theatrical release instead of going straight to streaming on HBO Max, fans have been encouraged by what has been revealed so far, and this latest image will add to the expectations of the latest Evil Dead offering.

Evil Dead Rise will be the first major Evil Dead movie in almost a decade and will be unique in that it won’t involve a cabin in the woods. This time around, the protagonists will be facing the Deadite army in a suburban tower block from Hell. Immediately, the change in location opens up a host of new ideas, and there is no doubt that everyone will be sorely disappointed if there isn’t an elevator full of blood somewhere in the movie.

The new image shared by Cronin teases a particularly bloody scene, which he called “a particularly messy day.” From the images of the movie that Cronin has previously shared, that seems like a phrase that could be applied to most days on set, with almost all of them seeming to include gallons of fake blood on every surface available.

Lee Cronin Promises There Will Be Blood in Evil Dead Rise

No matter where you look in the Evil Dead franchise, whether it is the original low-budget masterpiece of relentless terror from Sam Raimi or the gore-splattered 2013 remake, there has always been an unimaginable amount of blood being spilled. With Evil Dead Rise, that exact amount is 6,500 gallons, according to Cronin. As well as the reassurance of the corridors of Evil Dead Rises’ tower block running red, the movie has also been given the Bruce Campbell seal of approval. Although Campbell is only on board as producer this time rather than starring in the movie, he had plenty of praise to give for Cronin’s work. He said:

Evil Dead Rise will be released in cinemas on April 21, 2023.

“This one’s dark, this one’s pretty serious. Good, strong performances. These days it’s more about the book. That book gets around, that book is handed around, passed along, people try and get rid of it, they try to bury it or destroy it and they really can’t. So this book just keeps popping up, so really it’s just another story of what happens if this book appears in this particular group of people’s lives and how it intersects. Lee Cronin is a very serious man, he’s a very serious director. Sam Raimi picked him because he did a pretty good job on a movie A Hole in the Ground. He’s a very atmospheric director and Sam thought, ‘Let’s give this guy a shot.’ It’s gonna be really good, we’ve seen a rough [cut] of it already and it has all the components we need. Like anything, when you see a rough version it just has to be tightened, but we’re good. We’re in good shape.”
