Spoiler Warning: Evil on Paramount+

It’s now a month into season 3 of the Paramount + hit series Evil and the series has already gotten a renewal for season four. Here is everything you need to know about the hit series.

Evil is the creative offspring of Robert and Michelle King, creators of The Good Wife and The Good Fight. This crime, drama, and horror series premiered in the fall of 2019 with an episode entitled Genesis. Unlike any show before it, Evil chronicled supernatural investigations led by a priest-in-training (Mike Colter), a cynic (Katja Herbers), and a tech contractor (Aasif Mandvi). Each week the group, reminiscent of the Scooby gang, entertains audiences. David Acosta, Kristne Bouchard, and Ben Shakir were the investigative team no one knew they needed.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

There were no depths to the dark places the team was willing to explore. And each season, the Kings expanded deeper into the unknown. The spellbinding series, fraught with supernatural cases bordering science and the paranormal, varied in intensity. And for 45 minutes, fans were immersed in dramatically horrifying content weekly.

Despite the originality of the series, viewer interest was volatile. According to Screen Rant, “Evil failed to deliver strong weekly ratings, with viewing figures falling from 4.56 million to 3.19 million between its first and final season 1 episode.” Finally, however, Paramount+ swooped in three episodes into season two, picking up the series. And the Kings took it as an opportunity to add a bit of spice. As a result, season two proved the wildest and most imaginative season to date, replete with angels, lustful demons, and steamy erotic scenes; oh my. And thanks to Paramount+, Evil got its renewal for season three.

What Has Happened So Far on Evil?

Season two of the hit series was peppered with quite a few reveals. Audiences witnessed David Acosta’s submission to a catechism taking him closer to the priesthood. Unbelievably, Leland slithered his way into the monsignor’s good graces. As the snake he is, he managed to gain a recruit with the crew unable to stop him. After discovering Leland’s contact with her daughter, Kristen has a cooker-pressure moment. Her discovery leads to the revelation of her murderous secret. Which leads to a confessional turning into more than an unburdening of the soul. Undoubtedly, season two added sizzle to its viewers’ Sundays.

Season three’s premiere of Evil was wickedly delightful. The season opener pickups where season two leaves off, with a spiritual encounter that turns into a lot more for Bouchard and Acosta. Acosta appears to choose a passionate tryst over his vow of celibacy. And in a steamy exchange, Bouchard promises to keep it between the two. However, Acosta later learns not everything is not as it appears. Maybe he’s dived a lot further into the darkness than he initially thought. And as his weakness gains prominence with the intensification of temptation, it begs the question, is his collar in jeopardy? Maybe it is, and maybe it’s not.

According to Robert King’s statement to Paste, what arises may answer other probing questions:

Evil would not be the show it is without a dark plot. Season three gives us more of the occult. This segment could be titled demons, demons, everywhere. So far, introductions have been made to the demon of death, memes, and sex. And the demons are wreaking havoc on the lives of the investigative team. The Bouchard girls are a prime target of Leland, the big bad wolf. Naturally, Bouchard is hot and heavy on Leland’s trail. She is dead set on taking him down. Then finally and most unexpectedly, David is paid a surprise visit in a moment of solitude. In secret agent fashion, The Vatican recruits Acosta (Mike Colter).

What Will Happen Next on Evil?

For sure, there is more to be uncovered about Kristen’s early tussle with demon forces. Acosta may be forced or driven to give up his priesthood unless he gets a handle on his inner yearnings. Given the storyline, it is likely fans will meet the head honcho of Evil himself. Leland, a significant thorn in Bouchard’s side, plays an integral part in this dark investigative drama. Various theories point to the possibility of possession. Others deem Leland could be a demonic presence with a human facade.

Nevertheless, throughout the story, fans have chanced a glimpse of Leland Townsend’s otherworldly employer. A revelation in season two gives a full-frontal, and the beast proves to be Satan himself. However, there has yet to be a formal introduction to the master undergirding all Evil. So perhaps fans will see more of the (HBIC), the head beast in charge.

It also may not be surprising to see the permanent fall or death of one of the other titular characters. There haven’t seemed to be any significant losses. There is the possibility of something happening to Leland at either the hands of Kristen or Sheryl. Sheryl made a rather promising threat, and she may make good on that. Sheryl (Christine Lahti) could find herself in a show-down with Andy Bouchard (Kristen’s husband). Perhaps Andy Bouchard (Patrick Brammall) will learn of his wife’s darker entanglements as his eyes are drawn open to the darkness surrounding him.

Why Should Viewers Tune In?

The storyline is robust and compelling. There is a build that intensifies, and great beginnings deserve a fantastic ending. Not to mention Evil is the only show of its type currently running, giving fans something stimulating to end their week. Finally, fans of Robert and Michelle King will not want to miss where the divergent routes on this road toward Evil will take them.
