At some time in their lives, every Star Wars fan has lifted their hand and tried to use The Force, or started talking to someone in the hope of persuading them to do something against their will in a replication of the much-used Jedi mind trick. It seems that Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor is no different, although he only admitted to doing the former of those two actions on automatic doors but said he has never attempted a Jedi mind trick in real life.

When playing a character who has extraordinary abilities, there has to be a small part of any actor who would love to be able to do some of the same in the real world once cameras have stopped rolling, whether it is shooting webs from the wrist, reading someone’s mind or, in the case of the Jedi, opening doors with a roll of the fingers. As we will be seeing a lot more Jedi trickery in the upcoming series, McGregor was asked by Entertainment Weekly whether he had ever attempted to change the will of someone with a bit of Jedi magic. He said:

However, that does not mean that McGregor has not fallen into the trap of being caught waving his hands at automatic doors in the supermarket for his own amusement, which he confessed was embarrassing when he realized people were watching him. He continued:

“Have I ever tried to use a Jedi mind trick? Not really. I mean, I’ve been accused of doing it here and there by people who are trying to be funny. But no, I don’t think so. I’ve seen like tv hypnotists and stuff who do a sort of similar repeating things and they kind of… I’ve seen that on tv a bit where they actually get people to believe something that’s not true or something by the way they say things. But no, I don’t have those skills.”

“I do it with doors. I like to do that with them automatic doors for my own amusement. I always do a little Jedi move for the doors. And I have occasionally been caught doing it. You know, at like the supermarket or something when I’m wheeling my trolly. It’s just always for my own… because it makes me laugh, but occasionally I’ve been caught doing that and that’s kind of embarrassing.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi Is Looking to Repeat The Success of The Mandalorian on Disney+

Following the slightly disappointing outing of Boba Fett in his own spin-off series, Lucasfilm is looking to get back on track with Obi-Wan Kenobi when it makes its debut on May 25th. While the series was originally envisioned as a movie, the six-part show still has a story to tell, which is expected to culminate with a fierce lightsaber duel between Kenobi and former student Anakin Skywalker in the form of Darth Vader.

The series plot is mostly being kept under wraps, so it is not yet known what surprises could be in store, but following some of the revelations and character returns in The Book of Boba Fett, it could be possible that we will see some Clone Wars characters making a live-action appearance, as it has been hinted that some familiar characters will feature in the show but could be working for the Empire and against Kenobi.

All will be revealed when Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on May 25th, with new episodes landing each week exclusively on Disney+.
