The official synopsis is as follows:
Mel Gibson Is Keeping Busy Until Lethal Weapon 5
Mel Gibson has spent decades appearing in dozens of different roles, but the actor is not slowing down anytime soon with many other upcoming titles for fans of the actor to anticipate. Last month, he appeared in the new film Bandit, a crime drama based on a true story that also stars Josh Duhamel. His other recent roles include Panama, Agent Game, Hot Seat, and Father Stu. Gibson is also attached to the upcoming fantasy movie Boys of Summer with Mason Thames and Lorraine Bracco.
These movie roles have just been a way for Gibson to stay busy before revisiting one of the most popular roles of his career. Alongside Danny Glover, he is planning to return for an upcoming Lethal Weapon sequel. As director Richard Donner has sadly passed away, Gibson will be taking the reins himself as director of the film. He recently teased an early 2023 start date for the sequel.
“It’s [coming along] great, we’ve got a really good screenplay that I developed," Gibson told Screen Rant about the film. “Well, Donner developed it, Richard Donner, of course, developed it with Richard Wenk, and they had a really good template. I had the honor of sitting down, after Richard passed away, with the writer and doing a couple more drafts and trying to do it in the spirit of what we thought Donner might [want], because I knew the guy so well. We tried to get that flavor, and we were pretty happy with what we came up with.”
For now, fans can catch Gibson next in On the Line, which will be released in theaters, On Digital, and On Demand on Nov. 4, 2022. You can check out the full trailer for the film below, courtesy of Saban Films.
