Terrifier 2 is in theaters as of October 6, marking the return of Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) since part one was released back in 2016. This time around, Art is targeting Sienna (Lauren LaVera) and her little brother Eric (Griffin Santopietro), taunting them at every turn and taking out anyone who crosses their paths.
“I think if you’re a Terrifier fan, the question is always, ‘How do you top the first one?’ and it’s just above and beyond. I’ve been saying if Terrifier 1 is ‘Kill Them All’ by Metallica, then Terrifier 2 is ‘Master of Puppets.’ This has just gone to a completely different level, and that goes all across the board,” said Chris Jericho who plays Burke in the film.
Also in the cast are Jenna Kanell, Kailey Hyman, Georgia MacPhail, Catherine Corcoran, Casey Hartnett, and more. It’s written and directed by Damien Leone.
Chris Jericho on Art the Clown in Terrifier 2
Jericho commented that it was actually Art the Clown who attracted him to being involved in the Terrifier universe, as he likened him to other horror icons like Jason, Freddy, and Leather Face.
“That’s what attracted me to Terrifier in the first place. I thought even just watching the first, that Art is the most iconic killer we’ve had in the movies since the glory years of Jason and Freddy and Leather Face. He plays the part with such joy, and he’s a clown. He honks his horn, has his tricycle, and he just never leaves that character. But combine that with just these vicious, brutal murders that he commits while in character, that’s the real yin and yang where it’s so creepy because you don’t expect this weird-looking clown to act this way,” said Jericho.
When asked if he as a pro wrestler could take Art the Clown, Jericho replied: “I don’t know if Jericho could but The Painmaker might be able to. The Painmaker was conceived as what a serial killer would look like if he was a pro wrestler… There’s your crossover, The Painmaker versus Art the Clown, a graphic novel waiting to happen.”
On Lauren LaVera as the Final Girl in Terrifier 2
Bloody Disgusting
“That’s another great thing,” commented Jericho when asked about his thoughts on Thornton’s comments about LaVera being “the answer” to horror’s need for a new final girl.
“The female characters in part one were excellent, but like you said Lauren is off the charts… she’s perfectly cast because she’s really good in this movie from a performance standpoint. She looks great, and once she gets down and dirty against Art, you believe it. The characters are so well fleshed out, no pun intended, into even her brother. You really care for these people, and you don’t want to see them get killed, and some of them do in the worst ways."
Jericho concluded the interview by mentioning that Leone currently has some ideas for Terrifier 3, and also shared some of what he would like to see take place: “Damien has an idea for Terrifier 3. I think he kind of conceived the whole thing as a little bit of a trilogy… I don’t want to speak for him, but all indications that I know is that there’s going to be a third part for sure. I was like, ‘Dude, you have to go all the way, like Art the Clown Goes to Space.’ Just keep going… I’d like more explanation about what Art is. We know that there’s a supernatural element to him. He can get involved in your dreams and lives in there. He’s hard to kill, but you can still get him down and kill him a little bit… I want to see a bit more of exactly what Art is, and I want to see more of the wacky insane kills that come out of Damien Leone’s mind.”
