Patasola, known in South American folklore as a vampiric monster that appears out of the wilderness when male hunters or loggers start to think about women, is enough to have us sprinting in fear. That is if, according to the folklore, Patasola didn’t take on a luring appearance only to reveal its hideous true form as soon as it’s too late. Thrilling and horrific, right? Which is exactly the tone the producers of the indie-horror film The Curse of La Patasola aim to capture.
La Patasola follows two struggling couples who are haunted by the famed monster, testing their relationships, morality, and will to survive. The film marks the directorial debut of actor/writer AJ Jones (Lovecraft Country), with a story co-created by Jones and Florida native Daniela Gonzalez (Frenemies). The film also stars Luciana Faulhaber (Shades of Blue), Patrick R. Walker (The Resident), Najah Bradley (Black Box), and Gillie Jones (Mr. Frost). Rounding out the cast is Jack Young (The Perfect Race) and Mark Pettit (True Detective).
