Divorce Bait looks to take its romantic comedy in a brand-new direction, straying from the typical on-screen relationship. This time, the happy couple consisting of Vannessa Vasquez and Justin Berti will fake their divorce, finding out who their real friends are and who will try to take advantage of the situation. MovieWeb has an exclusive clip to share from the upcoming film, giving audiences their latest glimpse at Divorce Bait.

In the clip, we see Alexis Laguna (Vasquez) and Marco Laguna (Berti) as she shares the tragic news: their happy marriage is coming to an end. At least, that’s what Alexis wants her friends and family to think. She decided to tell everyone on social media she’s getting a divorce, though Alexis only plans to keep the post up for 24 hours. In that time, the couple will find out which friends are loyal and care about their relationship and which ones are looking to capitalize on the split between the couple.

The official synopsis for Divorce Bait reads: Alexis Laguna is a happily re-married, suburban housewife. But when she finds out that her friends are getting a divorce, and have begun to date others within their circle, she starts to spiral. Who can she trust? Alexis comes up with a plan. She announces on social media that she and Marco are getting a divorce to see which of her friends will try to steal her husband. Meanwhile, an old flame comes back into her life as she returns to her former career as a hand model. Now Alexis must learn the true meaning of trust, or fail at yet another marriage.

Divorce Bait looks to shake up the romantic comedy scene when the film arrives in limited theaters and VOD later this week, on Dec. 9.

Who Appears in Divorce Bait?

Patrick Perez Vidauri helms Divorce Bait, with previous experience including In Other Words and Lola’s Love Shack and upcoming projects such as Townhouse Confidential and The Answer to My Prayer. Divorce Bait will be the first film for the director since In Other Words in 2020.

Vannessa Vasquez is known for her roles in East Los High, The Fix, and Walker before landing a starring role in Divorce Bait. Justin Berti stars alongside her, known for Frontera, Twice Bitten, and Submission. The two leads are joined by Erik Fellows (Purgatory), Jennifer Daley (Casual), Greg Roman (Bones), Alyssa LeBlanc (Shameless), Robert Laenen (Good Thief), Lea Madda (Summertime), and Luciana Vara (Thieves).
