The MCU has always had a surprising relationship with comedy and improv. Kevin Feige and company consistently hire directors who have been famous for their comedy projects, such as the Russo brothers (Community, Arrested Development), Jon Favreau (Swingers, Chef), and Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows, Jojo Rabbit). They also have extensive bloopers and hours of outtakes featuring their actors riffing and improvising in charmingly funny ways.

However, it’s not too often that random improvisation makes its way into defining MCU canon, but that’s exactly what Patty Guggenheim and Benedict Wong did in their instantly beloved episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Guggenheim, playing the endless meme Madisynn King (“Madisynn is with two N’s, one Y, but it’s not where you think,” as she says), was immediately lauded for her scene-stealing performance and chemistry with Wong and others. Ever since that episode, fans have been fantasizing about a Madisynn/Wong spin-off, or wondering where Madisynn would show up next in the MCU. Guggenheim spoke with MovieWeb and provided some clarification.

Maidsynn King Will Return if Kevin Feige Makes the Call

Promoting the new Hulu comedy It’s a Wonderful Binge, in which she’s hilarious as “life partner and spiritual adviser” Delray Donna, Guggenheim paused to share her thoughts on the future of Madisynn in the MCU. “I don’t know,” said Guggenheim with trepidation, considering if she’d like to reprise the role in future installments, before breaking character and exclaiming, “Yes! Are you kidding me?” Guggenheim brought her cell phone up to her ear and watched the clock for a moment, then said:

Guggenheim has been an extremely talented comedian and underrated queen of improv for several years now, ever since coming up through The Groundlings (the influential comedy troupe which has had now legendary members like Jennifer Coolidge, Will Ferell, Lisa Kudrow, Paul Reubens, Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig, and other SNL alumni). The actress has flexed her comedic chops in numerous comedy series (Florida Girls, Superstore, Reno 911!, Curb Your Enthusiasm), but has only recently gotten major attention thanks to She-Hulk.

You know, I’m just waiting for Kevin. I’m waiting for Kevin to call. Of course I would come back, that would be so fun.

Patty Guggenheim Made Kevin Feige Cry From Laughter

Guggenheim’s extensive improvisation with Wong about her simultaneous passion for and trauma from The Sopranos, along with their favorite drinks, their post-credit scene, and much of their eventual relationship, was a highlight in the MCU’s very weird She-Hulk series. This, along with her natural chemistry, positive fan reception, quick wit, and pin-up-model beauty made Guggenheim an unforgettable part of the show. At the end of the day, though, Guggenheim just likes making people laugh.

“I just love comedy, and I’m so happy that people like comedy, too,” said Guggenheim. Fortunately, so does Kevin Feige and MCU fans, who have so far loved the comedic elements in things like the Thor, Ant-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy films. If a love of comedy is any indication, then Feige should be calling Guggenheim soon. The director of the Madisynn King She-Hulk episode, Kat Coiro, had this to say to TV Line:

Hopefully, audiences will get to see more of the character soon. In the meantime, you can catch Guggenheim in the wacky Christmas comedy It’s a Wonderful Binge on Hulu.

If you do a little deep dive on Kat Coiro, you will find Patty Guggenheim is there all the time. I do not go anywhere without that woman. She is a comedic genius. When I brought her up [for the She-Hulk role], nobody was familiar with her. But then she came in and auditioned for us and everybody – the Marvel executives, [including] Wendy Jacobson and Sean Earley… [showrunner] Jessica [Gao] – everyone watching that audition was actually crying with laughter. Tears streaming down their faces.
