We have an exclusive clip from Gravitas Ventures’ latest distribution, the debut feature film from writer, director, and producer Brad Bischoff, Grasshoppers. The clip teases the film’s story of two star-crossed immigrant lovers who roam their gated Midwestern community drink-by-drink in search of the perfect house.

Starring Saleh Bakri (Alem) as Nijm and Iva Gocheva (Outer Space Love Story) as Irina, the star-crossed lovers, Grasshoppers tells the story of a couple who wake up one morning to discover that all of their neighbors have left for the weekend. Upon making the discovery, the couple decides to ditch work and visit every empty house in the gated community for a drink, but what begins as fun will change their lives forever.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

An early review of the film from AiPT Comics said, “There is a simple beauty to the production, with long shots that are a mix of urban sprawl and isolation built by class… Beautifully scored, the film will remind those who watch it about the ups and downs of being in love.”

In addition to Bischoff, Justin Nijm and Lisa Rudin serve as producers on Grasshoppers. The film also stars Frank V. Ross (Drinking Buddies) as David, Bob Turton (Black Monday) as a Restaurant Manager, Janet Ulrich Brooks (Fargo) as Donna, and Jack C.Newell (Open Tables) as Clark.

Gravitas Ventures’ Meander Named One of the Best Sci-Fi Horror Movies of the 2020s

     Gravitas Ventures

Gravitas Ventures has a reputation for excellence. In 2021, the film distribution company known for its international films appeared in the fifth spot on MovieWeb’s best science fiction horror movies of the 2020s list for Meander. Matthew Watkins wrote:

The newest Gravitas Ventures film Grasshoppers was released on January 3, 2023.

The last few years have seen international cinema and television finally getting the recognition in the States it so rightfully deserves. Kicking the doors down and opening the floodgates was Bong Joon-ho’s history-making and Academy Award-winning 2019 masterpiece Parasite and proving that it was not a one-off were the uber successful Spanish series Money Heist and the ubiquitous South Korean Netflix show Squid Game. Unfortunately, Meander, Mathieu Turi’s criminally underrated French language film has not received the same kind of attention despite being a masterclass in creating palpable tension. While thematically it does bear a passing resemblance to the Cube franchise, Meander is original, exciting and creative enough to stand out as a great addition to the sci-fi horror genre.
