Heading into the last few days before Spider-Man: No Way Home lands in cinemas, it seems that for some unfathomable reason the marketing machine believes that we need even more clips of the movie to make sure everyone remembers it is coming and help make it the hit of the year. I know, ludicrous, isn’t it? However, what it does mean is that for those who want to see more footage from the – let’s use its correct title – the biggest Hollywood movie of the year, then a nice little extended look at the initial fight scene between Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Doc Ock on that bridge we have been seeing so much of has been released to keep them happy.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
The words “Hello, Peter” have been seen numerous times since the first trailer dropped for the movie earlier this year, and what better place for this extended clip to begin. After being asked if they know each other by the current Spider-Man, Ock asked for the location of his machine before all hell breaks loose in that usual Marvel style. You can check out the almost 50-second long clip below.
Of course, we know that Doc Ock is just one of the former villains returning to make Peter Parker’s life considerably more difficult in Spider-Man: No Way Home, with Green Goblin, Sandman, Electro, and The Lizard also making appearances thanks to the collision of universes across the Marvel spectrum. Doc Ock actor Alfred Molina revealed he was reprising the role he first played in 2004’s Spider-Man 2 earlier this year ahead of planned time, which obviously brought scorn from Marvel Studios’ boss Kevin Feige and his army of stringent secret keepers. However, only in the last few weeks has it been revealed which other former franchise stars are returning, including Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin.
Back in May, Molina said, “When we were shooting it, we were all under orders not to talk about it, because it was supposed to be some great big secret, but, you know, it’s all over the internet. I actually described myself as the worst kept secret in Hollywood! It was wonderful. It was very interesting going back after 17 years to play the same role, given that in the intervening years, I now have two chins, a wattle, crow’s feet and a slightly dodgy lower back."
Recently, the actor revealed that having been away from the role for just short of two decades made it a daunting prospect, and he was initially hesitant to return to the character.
“When the idea was first suggested, my first thought was, ‘Hang on. I’m 17 years older. I’ve got chins, I’ve got wrinkles, you know. I mean, what are they going to do?’” the 68-year-old said during a new “Villains Panel” video on the official Spider-Man YouTube channel. “And then, of course, you suddenly realize, ‘Wait a minute, they’ve got the technology. This isn’t going to be a problem.’”
Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in U.K. cinemas on Wednesday 15th, and in the U.S. on Friday 17th December. This comes to us from CBR.com.
