The image finds Hemsworth’s redemption-seeking hero inside what looks to be a maximum-security prison, a prison that has appeared throughout the promos and glimpses at Extraction 2 that have been released so far. While plot details for the Extraction sequel have been kept largely under wraps, it certainly looks like Tyler will be called back into action and sent to this prison, with recent reports claiming that the black ops mercenary will be tasked with “breaking into an impenetrable prison in order to rescue the family of a merciless Georgian gangster.”
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Released back in 2020, the first Extraction introduces Thor: Love and Thunder star Chris Hemsworth as a black-market mercenary named Tyler Rake, who has been left with nothing to lose thanks to his long, violent career. While at his lowest ebb, Rake is given a chance at redemption when he is hired to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord.
Directed by Sam Hargrave, written by Joe Russo, and starring Chris Hemsworth, Golshifteh Farahani, and Adam Bessa, Extraction was a smash hit for the streaming platform and quickly became the most-watched original film in Netflix’s history at the time. Netflix will no doubt be hoping to replicate the success of the first outing.

Extraction 2 Will be Bigger & Badder Than the First Movie

Writer Joe Russo returns for the sequel alongside director Sam Hargrave and star Chris Hemsworth, with the scribe and one-half of the brotherly team behind Avengers: Endgame revealing that Extraction 2 will be a little different from its predecessor. “It’s very different from ‘Extraction 1’, which we like,” Russo explained. “It’s its own movie in that regard. It has a different color schematic. It’s set in a different part of the world. It has a different pace, a different tone than the first one.”
Director Sam Hargrave, meanwhile, has teased several other changes, promising that Extraction 2 will be even “bigger, badder, more deadly, and more dangerous” than the first mission. “It’s an escape mission,” Hargrave revealed. “But it’s bigger, badder, more deadly, and more dangerous than anything we’ve seen Rake go through.”
For his part, Chris Hemsworth believes that they have made something unique for the action genre with the Extraction sequel saying recently, “We sort of went for the moon. In a very crowded world of action, I think we did something that’s very unique.”
Extraction 2 has not yet been given a release date, but it is expected to debut on Netflix sometime in 2023.
