Extraction 2 Finds Tyler Rake Breaking into a Prison
Netflix
After being presumed dead come the ending of the first outing, black ops mercenary Tyler Rake returns for another high-stakes mission in Extraction 2. That mission, breaking into an impenetrable prison in order to rescue the family of a merciless Georgian gangster. A task that should provide all manner of excuses for throwing fists, firing bullets, and leaving many a dead henchman in your wake. And all while brooding with the sort of gruff handsomeness that Hemsworth has now perfected.
“We sort of went for the moon,” Hemsworth has said of their hopes for the action sequences. “In a very crowded world of action, I think we did something that’s very unique.”
Returning director Sam Hargrave has described Extraction 2 as being “an action fan’s fantasy come to life,” saying, “We’ve got fist fights, car chases, explosions, trains, helicopters. It’s like an action fan’s fantasy come to life. At least it was for us action designers.” The filmmaker has also teased the mission at the center of Extraction 2, adding, “It’s an escape mission. But it’s bigger, badder, more deadly, and more dangerous than anything we’ve seen Rake go through.”
Now set for release on Jun. 16, Extraction 2 will be far from the only action movie to land on Netflix this year. The streaming service will also debut Heart of Stone, the James Bond-meets-Mission: Impossible action outing led by Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot which is due for release on Aug. 11; the neo-noir action thriller, The Killer, starring Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton and directed by Se7en and Gone Girl filmmaker David Fincher which will land on Netflix on Nov. 10; and The Mother, which finds Jennifer Lopez starring as an ex-assassin comes out of hiding to protect the estranged daughter she left earlier in her life and is scheduled to be released on May 12.
