Tokata Iron Eyes, who now goes by the name of Gibson and uses they/them pronouns is speaking out against her parents and the press in defense of The Flash actor Ezra Miller. Earlier this week, lawyer/activist Chase Iron Eyes and his pediatrician wife Sara Jumping Eagle filed a protective order at Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Court claiming Miller displayed “cult-like and psychologically manipulative, controlling behavior.” The couple further claimed their 18-year-old daughter, who Miller befriended when she was 12, is on the run with the DC Comics actor.

Speaking over the phone from his phone in North Dakota, Chase told Newsweek that he thought that Ezra appeared benevolent and had altruistic intention and was known by people they trusted. The worried father stated that he and his wife are concerned about Ezra’s state of mind and whether he’ll lash out at Tokata for actions they’ve taken on her behalf. Sara added:

Tokata’s parents also allege that Miller transported a supply of firearms and ammunition from Vermont to North Carolina in January “for a potential confrontation with the KKK.” They claim that to this day, their daughter is paranoid about the KKK surveilling them, tracking them and generally being a target of the KKK.

“We’re concerned about our daughter’s safety and want her to get out of this situation. We’re worried about all the worst-case scenarios. Our daughter’s basically brainwashed.”

She also promised that “Ezra and our crew” will speak about their story “when we see fit.” When asked why he waited so long to take his concerns to court, Chase explained that he was trying to protect his daughter by avoiding any escalations and hoping that his daughter would “course-correct or find a way to get away from this guy."

“I’d like to make a statement to acknowledge the tragedy that is the narrative of the general pubic and the assumptions made on my behalf by my family and friends regarding my stability and otherwise…My comrade Ezra Miller…has only provided loving support and invaluable protection throughout this period of loss [death of a friend]. I am now aware of the severity of emotional and psychological manipulation I was made to endure while in my parents’ home…I am an adult and I deserve to feel authority in my own body. This is my life. These are my decisions. And I’m disappointed in my parents and the press in every way. Thank you.”

The Bennington County Sheriff’s Office in Vermont, where Miller has a home, stated that an attempt to serve an Order of Evaluation on Tokata Iron Eyes had been made on three separate occasions in May 2022, but each time officers were told by Miller that Tokata is “not always there.” A hearing is set to be held in the case on July 12 at the Tribal Court, Fort Yates, North Dakota, but court officials have been unable to locate Miller to service notice of the hearing. If Miller fails to appear at the hearing, the court has warned that it would grant the parents’ request for a restraining order. Ezra Miller nor their representatives have commented on the matter.
