Filmgoers are gearing up for the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore in April, and the new official IMAX motion art has just arrived. Encouraging viewers to “experience the magic in IMAX,” the artwork takes the previously released IMAX poster and livens it up with some animation and teases that the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry will be a major setting in the sequel. You can check it out below.

The official synopsis for Fantastic Beasts 3 reads: “Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?”

David Yates, who helmed the previous films along with the final four Harry Potter movies, directs Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves (The Amazing Spider-Man) penned the script. Unlike the Harry Potter movies, this film is not based on any particular book by Rowling, leaving a lot of what will happen in the sequel a mystery to the fans.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore Introduces Mads Mikkelsen as Grindelwald

The cast of the sequel includes Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Ezra Miller as Aurelius Dumbledore, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein, Callum Turner as Theseus Scamander, William Nadylam as Yusuf Kama, and Richard Coyle as Aberforth Dumbledore. Mads Mikkelsen also debuts as Grindelwald following Johnny Depp’s controversial exit from the franchise. Mikkelsen has teased that he will bring something new to the table with his take on Grindelwald as he doesn’t want to simply mimic what Depp had done.

“Nobody’s interested in me going in there and trying to copy anything, that would be creative suicide immediately, especially when it’s been done before and masterfully,” Mikkelsen previously told Collider. “So everybody’s expecting us to find a different path. Having said that, we need a bridge between what he did and what I’m gonna do, so those bridges you have to find together, whether it’s a certain look, whether it’s a certain attitude in certain situations, but you have to make it your own. Anything else would be plainly just creatively stupid.”

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is set to be released in movie theaters on April 15, 2022. For more of Mikkelsen, the actor is also attached to appear in another major franchise with his casting in Indiana Jones 5. That film, which does not yet have an official title but has previously wrapped filming with returning star Harrison Ford, is coming this year as well. Fans can watch for the sequel to be released in theaters on June 30, 2023, following previous delays.
