Following the release of the latest trailer, a new poster for the upcoming wizarding world sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore reveals the core cast, led by Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore, and Mads Mikkelsen as Gellert Grindelwald. Released via Twitter, this latest poster engulfs the cast of characters and Hogwarts in the flame of the phoenix, a creature strongly associated with Dumbledore, and thus further confirms that this installment will center heavily on the legendary wizard and headmaster. Of course, the title is also something of a giveaway.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore will once again drop audiences in the 1930s, and lead up to the Wizarding World’s involvement in World War II. Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches, and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines? The highly anticipated follow-up will go far and wide across the wizarding world, exploring the magical communities in Bhutan, Germany, and China in addition to previously established locations, including the United States and the United Kingdom.

Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen will take over from Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald star Johnny Depp as the main villain of the saga, Gellert Grindelwald. While many have taken issue with Depp’s departure from the project, Mikkelsen has since explained his reasoning for stepping into the role. “They called me and they were obviously in a hurry, and I loved the script and so said yes,” the actor said in June last year. “And I know it was controversial for many people, but that’s just the way it plays out once in a while.”

Depp reportedly filmed one scene for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, so whether he will appear and undergo a transformation, or whether his portrayal will simply be ignored remains to be seen.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is directed by David Yates, from a screenplay by J.K. Rowling & Steve Kloves, based upon a screenplay by J.K. Rowling, and is due to be released in theaters internationally beginning April 7, 2022 and in North America on April 15, 2022.
