Audiences will have to wait a little longer before reuniting with Vin Diesel and the rest of his family in Fast & Furious 10, as Universal Pictures delayed the action flick from a release date of April 7, 2023, to May 19, 2023. This pushes the first part of the Fast & Furious finale fully into the summer blockbuster season, which will have director Justin Lin behind the wheel once again.

Not much is yet known about the direction of Fast & Furious 10, other than the idea that it will be the first part of a duo of movie’s, which together will bring the hugely successful franchise to a close. “The idea of the last chapter being two films is correct,” Justin Lin said earlier this year. “I have to say, I’m so glad - because I think when I first entered this franchise, a sequel was not a given. You had to earn it, you know? And so to be sitting here talking to you and go, ‘Oh yeah, there’s gonna be two more movies!’ I’m like, ‘Wow.’ It means a lot. So, every day when I wake up, I’m trying to reconfigure and make sure hopefully whatever we’re talking about process wise is gonna yield the best result. But I think having one chapter in two movies is correct. That’s where I sit today.”

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Director Justin Lin returned to the world of The Fast and the Furious with F9, which finds Dom reuniting with his beloved family, and picks up after the events of The Fate of the Furious. The story picks up with Dominic Toretto as he and his family are forced to face Dom’s younger brother Jakob, a deadly assassin, who is working with their old enemy Cipher, and who holds a personal vendetta against Dominic. The supporting sees Vin Diesel reunite with many members of his beloved family, including Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, John Cena, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Michael Rooker, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell, and Charlize Theron.

Many familiar faces including Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, and Sung Kang are all expected to return for the tenth outing, with Diesel himself hoping he can also coax Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson back into the fray. Despite the well-publicized feud between the two action stars, Diesel recently reached out to The Rock via social media, leaving a strangely patronizing message which began, “My little brother Dwayne… the time has come.”

After attempting to tug at The Rock’s no doubt extremely robust heartstrings, Vin Diesel concluded by saying, “I swore that we would reach and manifest the best Fast in the finale that is 10! I say this out of love… but you must show up, do not leave the franchise idle you have a very important role to play. Hobbs can’t be played by no other. I hope that you rise to the occasion and fulfill your destiny.”

So, once again for those in the back, Variety has confirmed that Fast & Furious 10 has been given a short delay, and is now due to be released in May 2023.
