There are just two installments left of the Fast & Furious movie series, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the franchise will be finished. Spinoffs are still a possibility, so chances are we’ll still end up seeing more of that world after the main series concludes with the upcoming eleventh film. We previously saw the franchise get one spinoff, 2019’s Hobbs & Shaw, leaving the door open for others to come into the picture at some point in the future.

One direction we could see this franchise be driven to next would be to focus specifically on female characters. In a new interview for Business Insider, Universal Pictures film boss Donna Langley said that this was something she wants to see happen with the Fast & Furious movies. Langley notes how they’ve already introduced plenty of compelling female characters in the series already with more to come in Fast X, so there’s a lot to work with concerning a potential spinoff that puts them into the front seat.

Will We Get a Female-Led Fast & Furious Film?

Some of the cast have teased a female spinoff set in the Fast & Furious franchise in recent years. In 2019, Vin Diesel that a screenplay was in the works for such a movie. Ramsey actress Nathalie Emmanuel has also added her support for the potential film, imagining a “badass girl movie” with a “Charlie’s Angels type vibe but with all the women.” Chris “Ludacris” Bridges endorsed the movie last year in an interview to promote F9.

“The girls need a spinoff,” he said. “That’s who needs a spinoff. All of the badass, kick-ass women in this film. That’s who deserves it.”

Jordana Brewster added, “Think about all the people we could bring back, right? We could bring back Eva Mendes, who’d be incredible to work with. There’s Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron, Nathalie [Emmanuel], me, Anna [Sawai], Michelle [Rodriguez]. It would be really, really cool. I can’t speak to the discussions, but I think it would be awesome.”

As noted above, Brie Larson is among the newcomers to the franchise as well, as she will make her debut in the upcoming Fast X. WIth some renewed attention on the female-led spinoff plans, perhaps we’ll hear a fruitful update on its progress in the near future.
