Jason Momoa Has Teased a Very Different Villain to What Audiences Might Expect
Apple TV
The idea of Aquaman and Dune star Jason Momoa as the latest villain to torment Dom and his family is sure to be one of the major selling points of Fast X. But the actor has warned audiences that his bad guy will be a little different to what many might be expecting.
“Time of my life. I get to be the bad guy finally. I’ve been the good guy for a while,” Momoa said of stepping into the Fast and Furious franchise as the main antagonist. “He’s very sadistic and androgynous and he’s a bit of a peacock… He’s got a lot of issues, this guy. He’s definitely got some daddy issues.”
Momoa continued, revealing that he wanted to use the role of Dante as a way to distance himself from his typical, macho type characters. “It’s been hard because people always think I’m just this dude who plays [macho characters]. But I want to be moved, I want something new. Things are changing, and even the villain roles I’m playing now are eccentric,” he explained.
Fast X will star a large ensemble cast alongside Diesel and Momoa, including Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, John Cena, Brie Larson, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Scott Eastwood, Michael Rooker, Daniela Melchior, Alan Ritchson, Cardi B, Helen Mirren, Rita Moreno, and Charlize Theron.
Fast X is now on track to be one of the most expensive movies ever made thanks to the large cast and the constant delays and backstage drama. According to sources close to production, the price tag for Fast X has grown to $340 million, putting the sequel in the top 5 most costly movies of all time. Thankfully, the last few installments in the Fast and Furious series have crossed £1 billion at the box office, so here’s hoping (for the studio’s sake) that Fast X will do the same.
Fast X is scheduled to be released on May 19, 2023, by Universal Pictures, with a sequel already planned and due to be released in February 2024.
