The first poster for the upcoming action movie sequel, Fast X, teases the end of the road for the hugely popular franchise. Lead star and head of the Fast and Furious family, Vin Diesel, took to social media to share the poster, which finds his character Dominic Toretto looking pensive as he no doubt musters up the strength to save the world by driving really fast all over again. While more specific plot details for Fast X are being kept under wraps at present, we do know that the sequel will find Dominic Toretto and his family once again going up against Charlize Theron’s criminal mastermind and cyberterrorist, Cipher. Only this time, she has a partner in crime in the form of Dante, played by Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star Jason Momoa. What exactly their plan is remains a mystery, but it is likely to cause all manner of chaos for Dom, forcing him and his gang to once again unite and blow things up.
Much like its predecessors, Fast X will feature a large ensemble cast including Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Momoa, John Cena, Brie Larson, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Scott Eastwood, Michael Rooker, Daniela Melchior, Alan Ritchson, Cardi B, Helen Mirren, Rita Moreno, and Charlize Theron.

Can Fast X Ever Achieve the Same Level of Drama That Has Occurred Behind-the-Scenes?

Though details of the plot of Fast X are largely unknown, we know arguably too much about what has been going on behind-the-scenes. Director Justin Lin, who has helmed five of the Fast and Furious outings, was on board to return before suddenly walking away from the project not long after filming had begun. Reports then claimed that Lin’s shock decision resulted from having a “major disagreement” with Diesel after Diesel reportedly arrived at a meeting with notes, something Lin was very unhappy with.
The meeting reportedly ended with “a slammed door,” with sources later saying that “Justin finally had enough and said, ‘This movie is not worth my mental health.’” The Incredible Hulk and Now You See Me director Louis Leterrier will now steer the ship.
All this backstage drama has come at a cost, with Fast X now expected to be one of the most expensive movies of all time thanks to “numerous budget-busting elements,” including “increased salaries for series star Vin Diesel and the rest of the franchise’s ensemble cast, general increases in production costs caused by global inflation and charges for pandemic testing requirements mandated by COVID-19 safety protocols.”
Fast X is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 19, 2023, by Universal Pictures, with the eleventh and final Fast and Furious sequel planned for release in February 2024.
