As reported by Deadline, Old School star Luke Wilson and Schitt’s Creek actress Annie Murphy have been cast in the upcoming film Fingernails. Apple Original Films acquired the movie from this year’s Cannes Film Festival after it premiered there at the start of this year.

A sci-fi love story, Fingernails focuses on organizations that can identify true love between two people. In this narrative, it is revealed that there is a method for measuring whether couples consider themselves to be in love. The result has been the opening of institutes that assist couples in succeeding. Jessie Buckley plays Anna, an assistant at one of these facilities for a mysterious and committed instructor called Amir (Riz Ahmed).

Christos Nikou directed Fingernails. He recently provided some insight into the Fingernails story to Deadline. The director explained that the film focuses on falling in love in the modern world at a time when romantic relationships are becoming increasingly uncertain and complicated. Nikou’s partners expressed a similar sentiment at Dirty Films:

“In a time when finding human connection is more important and more challenging than ever, Christos’ tender and refreshing take on modern romance is unique and profound.”

Who is Annie Murphy Playing in Fingernails?

     AMC

Throughout the film, Murphy portrays the love interest for Amir. It is probably no surprise that the actress is most well-known for her role in Schitt’s Creek as Alexis Rose. As a result of her appearance in the comedy series, Murphy was awarded her first Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. In recent times, Murphy has appeared in Kevin Can F**k Himself, Russian Doll, Murderville, and The Plateaus.

Wilson appears as the head of a research center known as the Love Institute. He is responsible for ensuring couples find evidence that their relationship is actually based on love. As well as recurring roles in movies and television series, the actor has appeared in Enlightened, Legally Blonde, and Bottle Rocket. He also starred in The CW’s superhero show Stargirl, but the show was canceled after three seasons.

Apple Original Films has continued to gain popularity after it took home its first Best Picture Oscar award for CODA earlier this year. FilmNation Entertainment serves as the production company for the film, which Cate Blanchett, Coco Francini, and Andrew Upton oversee. Fingernails was co-written by Stavros Raptis and Sam Steiner, with Jerome Duboz serving as executive producer.
