The hit Netflix series Stranger Things will come to its conclusion with the upcoming fifth and final season. It will mark the end of a journey that first began when Netflix premiered the series in 2016. The starring cast members of the coming-of-age series have grown up before the eyes of the fans who’ve been there watching every season from the start, and for them, it’s just as hard to say goodbye to the show as it is for the fans who don’t want to see it come to an end.

In a new interview with DiscussingFilm, series star Finn Wolfhard weighed in on his feelings about the situation. He admits that he’d go “insane” if he spent too much time thinking about it, comparing the series ending to “graduation” after growing up with the series and preparing to say farewell. Still, for what it’s worth, the actor is also excited to see how the Duffer Brothers wrap up Stranger Things, feeling confident that it’s going to conclude in an amazing way. From the interview:

“I try not to think about it so that I don’t go insane. I think it’s sad but it’s necessary. It almost feels like some graduation. I think just for me, the most important thing is the story should end where it’s appropriate. And I think the Duffers have a good idea for the end and I still don’t know it, but yeah, I’m excited. I’m nervous, and I’m all the things. I’m all the emotions!”

Stranger Things Concluding Is the End of an Era

In the years since its debut, Stranger Things has been one of pop culture’s most popular shows. In addition to record-high viewership, the series has consistently garnered attention at awards season with every season’s finale leaving fans even more anticipated to see the next one. After four seasons, it all comes to an end with the fifth season in 2024. It’s sad to see it end for fans, but the kids are all grown up and it’s time to bring this story to an end.

But that doesn’t mean we won’t see more of the Stranger Things universe. A certain chapter will be closing, but the Duffer Brothers plan to build out more of that universe with spinoff shows. Recently, it was reported that there’s an anime spinoff dubbed Stranger Things: Tokyo in the works. The Duffer Brothers have also teased other spinoffs, but have suggested they’d want to “pass the baton to someone else who’s really talented and passionate.”

The future of the Stranger Things universe is yet to be revealed, but the story of Eleven and Co. will end in 2024.
