Save your family or save humanity? That is the difficult question posed by the first poster for Knock at the Cabin. From The Sixth Sense and Old director M. Night Shyamalan, the release of the poster comes alongside the release of the first trailer for the mysterious horror movie, which finds a family falling victim to a home invasion from a small group of fanatics who believe they have been tasked with stopping the apocalypse. Released courtesy of the official Twitter account for Knock at the Cabin, the poster is somehow simultaneously both warm and vibrant and unrelentingly creepy, as a small girl (Kristen Cui’s character Wen) kindly offers a flower to several people whose shadows hauntingly loom over her, adding a sense of terror to what would be a picturesque setting.

Typical of Shyamalan, Knock at the Cabin has been shrouded in mystery. Until now, that is. Thanks to the newly released trailer, we now know that Knock at the Cabin will follow a family who, while vacationing at a remote cabin, are taken hostage by four armed strangers who demand that the family make an unthinkable choice to avert the apocalypse. With limited access to the outside world, the family must decide what they believe before all is lost.

Knock at the Cabin is Based on the Novel The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul G. Tremblay

It has also now been revealed that Knock at the Cabin will be based on the novel The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul G. Tremblay. Released in 2018, the novel has since been described by seminal horror author Stephen King as “thought-provoking and terrifying” and was awarded the Horror Writers Association’s Bram Stoker Award for Novel in 2019.

Tremblay has been batting back questions about the adaptation since Knock at the Cabin was first announced. Thankfully, the author can now openly discuss the project, which he did in a recent interview with CNBC.

Knock at the Cabin is scheduled to be released in the United States on February 3, 2023, by Universal Pictures.
