The Netflix TUDUM event has revealed our first look at Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot in the upcoming spy thriller flick, Heart of Stone. Released courtesy of Netflix, the first footage from Heart of Stone comes in the form of a behind-the-scenes look, with Gadot providing details of what she and the streaming service hope to be a major franchise starter. You can check out the behind-the-scenes Heart of Stone featurette below.

Heart of Stone, the Skydance spy thriller led by Wonder Woman 1984 and Red Notice star Gal Gadot was officially moved over to Netflix in January last year. The streaming giant reportedly emerged victorious following what has been described as a competitive auction for the worldwide rights to the project. Heart of Stone is planned as the first installment in what Netflix hopes will become a major franchise akin to that of James Bond and Mission: Impossible, with Gadot reportedly signing an eight-figure deal for the project.

While more specific plot details for Heart of Stone remain under wraps at present, the idea behind Heart of Stone is to spawn a female-centric spy thriller franchise with Gal Gadot in the lead. What we do know about the project is that Gadot will star as Rachel Stone, a CIA agent, and the only person who stands between her powerful, global, peace-keeping organization and the loss of its most valuable — and dangerous — asset.

Heart of Stone will star a supporting cast that includes the likes of Jamie Dornan (The Fall, Fifty Shades of Grey), Alia Bhatt (Highway), Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda, Death on the Nile), Matthias Schweighöfer (Army of the Dead), Jing Lusi (Crazy Rich Asians), Paul Ready (The Terror), Jon Kortajarena (A Single Man), Matteo Cicconi, and Angela Esposito.

Heart of Stone is being directed by Tom Harper, who most recently helmed the adventure movie The Aeronauts starring Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones. The filmmaker is also known for his work on the likes of This Is England ‘86, Misfits, and Peaky Blinders on the small screen, as well as The Woman in Black: Angel of Death and Wild Rose on the big screen.

The script for Heart of Stone meanwhile has been penned by famed comic book writer Greg Rucka, who is best known for his work on the likes of Action Comics, Stumptown, Batwoman, Black Magick, Detective Comics, Lazarus, and, rather fittingly, Wonder Woman. He is also the creator behind the graphic novel The Old Guard, a story that was recently adapted by Rucka himself and proved to be a huge hit for Netflix when it was released in 2020. Rucka has written the script alongside Allison Schroeder, who was nominated for an Oscar for her work on Hidden Figures.

Heart of Stone is just one several potential franchise starters for Netflix, with the likes of the recent The Gray Man starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans and Red Notice, which finds Gal Gadot starring alongside Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds, all being planned as major tentpole projects exclusive to the streaming service.

Co-produced by Skydance Media, Mockingbird Pictures and Pilot Wave, Heart of Stone is now all set to be released straight to streaming on Netflix.
