The first reactions to Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi family adventure flick, The Adam Project, have arrived, with many praising the movie as a funny, emotional, imaginative 80s throwback. Starring Ryan Reynolds, The Adam Project is due for release later this year, and it sounds like it could be a seriously good time.

The Adam Project finds director Shawn Levy once again working alongside Free Guy star Ryan Reynolds, with the movie featuring a different kind of character for Reynolds than audiences are perhaps used to. “This character is night-and-day different from the character Ryan played for me in our last movie,” Levy explained. “Blue Shirt Guy is a deeply innocent, naive boy in a man’s body. Whereas Adam Reed in The Adam Project is bruised by life and consequently deeply cynical.”

Clearly, The Adam Project has hit the right notes, with many reactions praising the themes of the movie and the performance of Walker Scobell as a 13-year-old version of Reynolds’ time traveler.

The reactions to The Adam Project so far are overwhelmingly positive, with some even calling the movie a “masterpiece” that further confirms the quality collaboration of Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds. Indeed, The Adam Project sounds like the perfect blend of emotional family drama, action, comedy, and science fiction adventure that audiences will no doubt be clamoring to see when the movie hits Netflix in a few months time.

The Adam Project will be led by Ryan Reynolds as Adam Reed, a wounded time traveler who ventures into the past from 2050 on a rogue mission to search for the woman he loves (played by Zoe Saldaña) who had previously gotten lost in the time-space continuum under mysterious circumstances. However, when Adam’s ship is damaged, he ends up sent spiraling back to 2022, and the only place he knows from that time, his home. It’s there that a 12-year-old version of Adam (played by Scobell) becomes his ally.

Alongside Ryan Reynolds, The Adam Project stars newcomer Walker Scobell, both of whom will play the two different versions of the central character. The Adam Project also features The Avengers star and Incredible Hulk, Mark Ruffalo, as the title character’s physicist father, a man who holds great importance for the future; Guardians of the Galaxy star Zoe Saldaña as Reynolds’ fighter pilot wife; Electra star Jennifer Garner as the mother of Adam at age 13; and The Incredibles 2 star Catherine Keener as the villain of the piece.

The Adam Project is scheduled to be released on Netflix on March 11, 2022. The sci-fi action-adventure is just one of many high-profile projects due for release on Netflix this year, including The Gray Man starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, director Rian Johnson’s Knives Out 2, the fantasy-adventure Slumberland starring Jason Momoa, Day Shift starring Jamie Foxx as a vampire slayer, and Enola Holmes 2 with Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill.
