The world of The Walking Dead is expanding, and a first look at what that looks like has been revealed in a teaser for Dead City. The spin-off will see fan-favorite villain-turned-anti-hero Negan and Maggie relocating to the new surroundings of Manhattan, New York. The teaser is not forthcoming with too many details but features some ominous shots of a dead New York and some new zombies for fans to get their teeth into. Check out the teaser below.

Negan and Maggie have a very uneasy relationship, mainly because Negan bashed her husband Glenn’s head in with his baseball bat Lucille. In the finale of The Walking Dead, the pair agreed that Maggie was never going to forgive Negan for what he did, but she was not going to be eaten up by continuing to hate him. It seems that whatever their differences, they will be thrown together on the cut-off Manhattan island, where they will face threats from both the dead and the living.

Very few details are known about the spin-off, but Jeffrey Dean Morgan has already teased that there could be some other familiar faces appearing in the series. He previously teased:

“I’m happy to still be playing Negan, but I’m sad I don’t get an opportunity to work with [The Walking Dead cast] anymore – unless I do!”

Dead City Only Been Possible Through Jeffrey Dean Morgan Not Leaving The Show as Planned

     AMC

While many Walking Dead stars have ducked out of the franchise over the few years, Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan has actually been a fixture in the show longer than originally planned. The actor recently said during a Comic-Con appearance that he was originally only going to be on the series for about three years. He said:

Dead City is just one of the new spin-offs coming from The Walking Dead Universe, with Daryl Dixon and Rick & Michonne also heading into production. Between them, the new shows will almost make it feel like The Walking Dead has not actually ended, especially considering that Fear The Walking Dead and Tales of The Walking Dead will both be back on AMC.

“I think, originally, it was gonna be three years. I think that was [the plan]. I had a conversation with Scott [Gimple, executive producer and former showrunner], and it was like, ‘You gotta be on it for at least three years if you want to be a part of this show.’ I was like, ‘That seems like a long time.’ Little did I know that eight years later or whatever, we’d still be here. That eight years has gone by like that. Like that. I can’t believe that we’re here and celebrating the end of this show as we know it. It’s unbelievable to me. There’s been so many kind of iterations of this show through the years, losing people, having people come back.”

A premiere date for Dead City has not yet been announced.
