Prepare to spend more time with the Fraggles on Apple TV+. On Monday, it was announced that Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock has officially been renewed for a second season. The show, which is a reboot of the classic series Fraggle Rock, premiered its first season on Apple TV+ in January. Last month, it debuted the holiday special, dubbed Night of the Lights Holiday Special, though the second season renewal hadn’t been made official until now.
Per Deadline, season 2 will feature various guest stars, and this includes Daveed Diggs (Hamilton, The Little Mermaid) returning after his appearance in the holiday special. Other announced guest stars include Ariana DeBose (West Side Story, Schmigadoon!), Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso, Thor: Love and Thunder), and Catherine O’Hara (Beetlejuice, Schitt’s Creek). Production has already started in Canada on the second season.

According to the report of the renewal, season 2 will feature “big changes affecting the Rock, the Fraggles, Doozers, and Gorgs, (which) will force them to confront their past and celebrate their interdependence, as they move through challenges together with hope, silliness, and brand new songs, all while dancing their cares away…down at Fraggle Rock.”

The new series has been a hit for Apple TV+, recently getting recognized at the first-ever Children’s & Family Emmy Awards. It won the award for Outstanding Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design and was also nominated for Outstanding Children’s or Family Viewing Series. With its second season, the show will have a chance to compete again.
The first season featured celebrity guest stars like Cynthia Erivo, Ed Helms, Patti LaBelle, and Kenan Thompson. The series stars Lilli Cooper as Doc, a woman who owns a house leading to the magical world of Fraggle Rock. Character include the Fraggles, Gobo, Mokey, Wembley, Boober, and Red as they interact with Doozers and avoid the Gorgs.
Created by Jim Henson, the original Fraggle Rock aired for five seasons from 1983 to 1987. Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock is executive produced by The Jim Henson Company’s Lisa Henson and Halle Stanford alongside longtime Henson collaborator John Tartaglia. Matt Fusfeld and Alex Cuthbertson also executive produce, while Dave Goelz and Karen Prell co-executive produce. Chris Plourde is producing and Tim O’Brien is co-producing. New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer also serve as executive producers.
