Scream returned to theaters in 2022 with a soft reboot after a decade-long hiatus, and now the franchise is getting ready to greet audiences with the sixth installment.
2022’s Scream was directed by Matt Bettinelli and Tyler Gillett, directors of Ready or Not, the surprise hit of summer 2019. The duo redefined the long-running slasher franchise. Neve Campbell (aka Sidney Prescott) and Courteney Cox (aka Gale Weathers), iconic faces of the series, have made a comeback. However, Campbell won’t reprise her role for the upcoming installment due to a financial dispute over her offer on the film.
Sadly, Wes Craven, who directed the first four movies in the Scream franchise, passed away in 2015. However, the original writer and creator, Kevin Williamson, is still with Scream.

Scream received positive reviews compared to other films in the franchise and met the audience’s expectations. Scream made $140 million worldwide on a $24 million budget. The movie is now available on Paramount+.
Given the fantastic reception to the reboot, audiences were left wanting more. Now, as Scream VI draws ever closer, Williamson shares his thoughts on the film. While promoting the slasher movie Sick, which received a lot of positive reactions, Williamson spoke to Syfy Wire about Scream VI:
“It doesn’t feel like ‘Part 6’ it feels like you’re watching this big, huge, fresh reinvention. I love it. I’ve watched the movie with a big smile on my face. I think it’s everything and more. And going to New York was awesome. The movie feels new, it feels fresh, it feels like a new movie.’'

Williamson has praised the careers of the franchise’s new faces and believes they are ready to “carry the torch.” He said:
The current state of the horror genre, which he is pleased about, was instrumental in Williamson’s reinvention of Scream. He said the missing points determined his approach:
‘‘Radio Silence is amazing, they’re the perfect people to take the torch. I love Scream VI. It’s really good. It’s great. There’s no way around it. I’m very happy with how it turned out. I really do have all that enthusiasm for it. I’m really excited.’’
According to Netflix’s Wednesday star Jenna Ortega (aka Tara Carpenter), the new face of the franchise, the upcoming Scream movie will be the most “aggressive” and “violent” of the franchise yet. Mason Gooding (aka Chad) and Jasmin Savoy Brown (aka Mindy Meeks-Martin) will return for the sixth installment of the series. Additionally, Hayden Panettiere will reprise her role as Scream 4 survivor Kirby Reed.
‘‘‘Let me write something I’m not seeing right now. Let me write something that I think I can add to the conversation.’ That’s kind of how I approach it. There’s no trick to it or roadmap, really.’’
Scream VI will hit theaters on Mar. 10.
